Hitachi Rail is looking for an enthusiastic self-motivated Head of Strategic Sourcing Americas who thrives in a fast-paced environment. The successful candidate is comfortable performing a wide range of tasks from administrative to strategic. The position is based in Pittsburgh, PA.

The right candidate will lead the American Indirect Strategic Sourcing Team responsible for the spend associated with all corporate functions to ensure that an appropriate supply base is selected and managed to meet their needs.

The Group of Strategic Sourcing Indirect team are responsible for the provision of strategic and operational Procurement for assigned materials and services related to e.g. IT, HR, Finance, Marketing, Facilities Management etc. Primary objectives are to:

  • Understand and analyze the business requirements and demand for the assigned categories
  • Develop and implement category strategies
  • Manage Sourcing & Buying of materials and services for Corporate Functions
  • Drive value from group category and supplier management – with a high focus on reducing SG&A costs

As part of this global team, the Head of Strategic Sourcing - Americas is responsible for the provision of Sourcing and Buying capability to meet the global and regional business requirements for assigned categories.

The main responsibilities of the Head of Strategic Sourcing - Americas are:

  • Leading and facilitating sourcing projects aimed at identifying cost saving and optimization opportunities
  • Contributing towards developing the appropriate sourcing strategy by utilizing best in class sourcing methodologies
  • Collaborating with stakeholders to help them develop specifications, gain quotations and conduct analysis to balance the value of competing bids and make business case-based recommendations
  • Supporting the Procurement Management Team and working with suppliers to ensure cost reduction, risk mitigation and to establish robust commercial agreements
  • Leading, coordinating and taking responsibility for all day to day operational procurement activities and trouble-shooting, including liaison with end users and other internal stakeholders as required
  • Managing the procurement operations team (P2P/Order placing/requisitions) in terms of prioritization, development, query resolution and measuring performance to ensure the highest standards of delivery and customer service
  • Resolving any day-to-day end user and supplier operational queries including invoice and payment issues in conjunction with Finance and budget holders as appropriate when escalated from the Team
  • Inspiring and managing the performance of direct reports conducting regular 1 to 1 sessions including, but not limited to, half-yearly and annual appraisals and personal development plans
  • Empowering, mentoring and developing team members to ensure ongoing skills/knowledge growth, succession/resilience planning and self-sufficiency/ownership/responsibility as far as practically possible
  • Overseeing day-to-day order lead-time resolution with the team and internal stakeholders
  • Serving ae a leading example of the Hitachi Rail mission, vision and values
  • Adhering to company and functional policies and procedures
  • Managing the performance of direct reports conducting regular 1:1 meetings, coaching and mentoring personal development, and provide constructive feedback through appraisals
