Hitachi Rail is looking for an enthusiastic self-motivated Production Supervisor in Hagerstown, MD in support of our North American Vehicles projects, who thrives in a fast-paced environment. The successful candidate is comfortable performing a wide range of tasks from administrative to strategic.

Core purpose:  

The Production Supervisor will be responsible for managing the daily operations of the production team to ensure that production targets, quality standards, and safety requirements are met. This role will oversee staff, coordinate activities, and work to improve efficiency, output, and product quality in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.

Main tasks & the responsibilities include but not limited to:

  • Use Solid Works CAD software to create electrical/mechanical drawings & schematics in compliance with customer specifications, safety requirements, industry standards, and company policies 

  • Communicates project technical needs to Operations Manager 

  • Create & maintain necessary engineering documentation 

  • Create specifications for electrical/mechanical systems & components 

  • Provide status reports to Operations Manager 

  • Design, test, and analyze electrical/mechanical systems & components in order to ensure compatibility & compliance 

  • Provide electrical/mechanical engineering support throughout full cycle of project 

  • Ensure production is being performed in compliance with customer specifications, industry standards, company policies, and contract timeline 

Team Leadership & Supervision:

  • Supervise and lead a team of production leads and production workers, ensuring smooth daily operations.
  • Schedule and assign work to production staff, ensuring optimal resource allocation.
  • Provide training and mentoring to new employees and ongoing development to existing staff.
  • Ensure staff compliance with company policies, procedures, and safety standards.
  • Managing employee competency and attendance through the system
  • Present all relevant communications to team during 7:00 AM morning meeting including one-point lessons, quality red card alerts, and general communications cascaded by leadership.
  • Record the attendance of all team members present at 7:00 AM morning meeting.
  • Escalate unplanned absenteeism and tardiness to immediate supervisor.
  • Organize and maintain track of tools assignments and tools replacement with support of area team leaders.
  • Coordinate with quality dept. collection and replacements of tolls under calibration.
  • Coordinate and track assignment of tool bags and uniforms to employees and trigger tools replacements based on status for tools stocks

Production Planning & Scheduling:

  • Monitor production schedules and ensure that all deadlines are met.
  • Collaborate with the production manager to create and adjust production plans as needed.
  • Oversee production activities to ensure that targets for output, efficiency, and quality are achieved.
  • Escalation of any blocking points that will delay the completion of build to the production planning schedule to your immediate supervisor.
  • Coordinate with material management team material criticalities to supply production activities.

1.       Quality Control:

-          Ensure that products meet quality standards and specifications.

-          Conduct regular inspections of production processes, identifying and correcting any issues.

-          Work with the quality control team to address non-conformities and implement corrective actions.

-          Review and verify daily that all Manufacturing Inspection Plans (MIPs) are filled out correctly, with serialized tooling information, expiration dates, and the most up-to-date documentation matrix revisions.

-          Ensure that all drawings in your assigned work area are the latest revision based on the Station Documentation Revision Checklist provided by engineering. 

-          Drive closure of open inspection findings for your assigned work area and ensure that rework is performed to appropriate Hitachi Quality Standards. Escalate issues that cannot be resolved without assistance from supporting functions as necessary.

-          Communicate with an immediate supervisor as soon as the product is ready for inspection or buyback. Communication of the readiness of defect buyback will be following verification that the master inspection defect list is properly filled out and all workable items have been completed.

-          Create NCR requests with support from area team leader to properly track and manage non conformant materials in production area.

-          Follow up and coordinate activities related to the closure of open non-conformity including material and special tools needed.

2.       Safety & Compliance:

-          Ensure a safe working environment by enforcing adherence to safety protocols and regulatory standards.

-          Conduct regular safety audits and implement corrective actions when necessary.

-          Promote a culture of safety within the production team.

-          Manage incidents investigation and interface with HSE manager to complete incident management processes.

3.       Troubleshooting & Problem Solving:

-          Identify and resolve production problems, delays, or defects.

-          Coordinate with maintenance staff to address equipment malfunctions.

-          Analyze production data to recommend process improvements and enhance productivity.

4.       Inventory & Materials Management:

-          Monitor inventory levels to ensure the timely supply of materials needed for production.

-          Coordinate with the supply chain or warehouse team to ensure the availability of necessary resources.

5.       Reporting & Documentation:

-          Prepare/update daily, weekly, and monthly production reports, tracking performance and key metrics.

-          Maintain accurate records related to production performance, employee attendance, and incident reports.

-          With support of area team leader, collect and define people performance evaluation and collaborate with production manager to define people classification promotions and reassignments.

-          Manage the end of the year employees’ evaluation process with the production manager.

Required Skills/Knowledge:

  • 3 to 5 years prior supervisory or managerial experience in an industrial or manufacturing environment preferred.
  • Prior experience assembling and managing a team of facility support associates.
  • Highly organized.
  • Intermediate to Advanced EXCEL and SAP
  • Use Solid Works CAD software to create electrical/mechanical drawings & schematics in compliance with customer specifications, safety requirements, industry standards, and company policies
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office Package (Excel, Word, Power Point, Outlook, Teams)
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Project is a plus

Education:            

  • Highschool diploma or GED, mandatory. Associate degree in Electrical Engineering or related field, preferred.

The salary range for this position is $76,560 to $114,840 per year.  Final pay is determined by the candidate’s experience, skillset and ability level, internal equity and location.
