The Lead Engineer will assist the Engineering Manager in planning, directing and coordinating all activities of Engineering Department with other departments and functions.

 

Chief Duties and/or Responsibilities:

 

  1. Assists engineering manager in the planning, direction, and coordination of all engineering department activities.
  2. Controls manufacturing process to maximize quality improvement, improved efficiency and cost reduction.
  3. Troubleshoots assembly and/or machining equipment as required in order to meet quality and production requirements.
  4. Creates and maintains controlled documents such as Control Plan, PFMEA, Operator Work Instruction, In-Process Inspection, Equipment Check Sheet, etc.
  5. Conducts SPC, CPK, Gage R&R and time study as required.
  6. Improves equipment layout, process and material flow to optimize production line efficiency.
  7. Leads cross-functional team for solving quality problems by using root-cause analysis tools.
  8. Leads Kaizen activities to ensure continuous improvement in processes, equipment, products and components.  Uses systematic methods such as collecting and analyzing downtime/scrap data, dimensional data, etc.
  9. Practices 5S and Plan/Do/Check/Action cycles.
  10. Trains Supervisors / Group Leaders on product knowledge and equipment operation to support for creation / maintaining work instruction.
  11. Supports TS16949 and ISO 14000 audits.
  12. Coordinates the manufacturing launch of new/revised products.  Creates timelines and goals.  Controls project launch to ensure meeting customers’ requirements.
  13. Leads APQP/PPAP/Run-rate events.
  14. Assists engineering manager to plan, direct and coordinate all activities of engineering department.
  15. Acts as engineering manager when manager is not available.

Qualifications

Qualified Applicants will possess the following:

 

  1. Bachelor’s degree in Engineering.
  2. Minimum of 10 years engineering experience, preferably in automotive field.
  3. Technical skills in manufacturing processes and methods including material flow, layout, machining, assembly and production equipment.
  4. Familiarity with TS16949, ISO14001 and OSHA regulations.
  5. Kaizen and Lean Manufacturing techniques.
  6. Problem analysis and problem resolution.
  7. Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  8. Excellent organizational skills.
  9. Ability to motivate team efforts to accomplish goals.
  10. Must be proficient in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.  Some Access and CAD experience preferred. 

Supervisory Responsibilities:

Responsible for the direction and supervision of employees. 

 

Physical Demands:

Required to sit or stand and move about the facility.  Occasional lifting of items not to exceed 50 lbs.

 

Work Environment:

Combination of office and plant environment.  May be required to use safety glasses and wear steel toe shoes while performing specific tasks or while in specific manufacturing areas.
