General Summary/Objective (Purpose of position):

Under general supervision, performs a wide range of non-repetitive electronic assembly operations on PCB's, cables, components, or subassemblies (e.g. chassis). Multi-skilled worker assembles electrical and mechanical components per engineering drawings or instructions. May use schematics or blueprints, wiring lists, and verbal/written instructions to assemble, rework, or reassemble units. Assignments may be moderately complex and personal judgment may be used to resolve issues that arise.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

§  Assemble electrical or electronic systems and support structures installing components, units, subassemblies, wiring, crimping, soldering, plugging stripping, routing, inspecting, and potting.

§  Adjust, repair, or replace electrical or electronic component parts to correct defects and to ensure conformance to specifications.

§  Read and interpret schematic drawings, diagrams, blueprints, specifications, work orders, and reports in order to determine materials requirements and assembly instructions.

§  Works from blueprints, sketches or verbal tasks to complete tasks. Designs and constructs tools, molds, jigs and fixtures for assembly and manufacturing needs to meet production schedules and objectives.

§  Works well with minimal supervision of tasks and instructional guidance. Able to make decisions and deal with issues that may arise in the course of conducting assembly. 

§  Assist in ensuring that systems personnel and test equipment are current with the latest upgrades and/or releases.

§  Provide feedback to engineering team on product quality issues and process improvements.

§  Occasional involvement in customer installations and training programs

§  Assign and explain assembly procedures or techniques to other workers

§  Set up and maintain a clean working environment at all times

§  Understand and follow all safety policies, codes, and procedures

Position Requirements (Knowledge, skills and abilities required to perform satisfactorily in the position):

§  Good understanding of basic electrical theory, test equipment and static discharge protection.

§  Experience with hand tools, including crimpers, drills, taps; torque wrenches, plasma cutting and power tools are required.

§  Ability to troubleshoot minor problems read schematics, blueprints and use a variety of test equipment such as digital meters, multi-voltage sources, and oscilloscopes.

§  Must be able to function in a fast paced environment and multitask.

§  Candidate must be mobile and able to work standing, bending, squatting, twisting or reaching with hands and arms as required.

§  Must be able to work in a team environment and be able to take responsibility for quality of work performed.

§  Must have ability to analyze and solve problems. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule format.

§  Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

§  At times may be called upon to assist Test Engineering or other engineering departments needing technical assistance.


Education and Experience:

Education based on requirements that are job-related and consistent with business necessity.

§  High School diploma or equivalent.

§  Some college level course work and training in electronic and electro-mechanical assembly and testing required.

§  Experience in manufacturing (minimum 2 years) as an assembler in electronics manufacturing and test environment.  At a minimum, this would include basic understanding of electronics testing and on-the-job training in a test environment using test equipment and applying troubleshooting techniques.

§  Experience with computers is required.  Experience with Windows environment and Microsoft Office products is expected.

§  Experience or training in computer programming or software troubleshooting is desired.

§  Versed understanding of electro-mechanical assembly and testing methodologies and applies knowledge and skills to complete a wide range of tasks required.

Supervisory Responsibility:

This position has no direct supervisory responsibilities.

Work Environment:

This position will require working in a manufacturing area, which may require the use of Personal Protection Equipment (PPE) as needed.
