Ansaldo STS USA is looking for an enthusiastic self-motivated Contractor - S ystem Engineer - Turnkey Railway who thrives in a fast-paced environment. The successful candidate is comfortable performing a wide range of tasks from administrative to strategic. The position is based in Baltimore, MD.

Provide expert technical leadership to a project team consisting of multiple major technical subsystems associated with railway systems for all portions of the turnkey railway project lifecycle.
As a key technical leader within an integrated project team delivering a railway system of systems, the turnkey system engineer is accountable for performing the following:
  • Technical Planning:
    • Contribute to the identification of program objectives and technical development strategy
    • Prepare systems engineering management plans, product breakdown structures, program work breakdown structures, integrated master plans/schedules
    • Identify program metrics including product technical performance measures and key performance parameters
    • Identify program resource needs in terms of equipment, facilities, and personnel capabilities
  • Technical Effort Assessment:
    • Contribute to the collection, analysis, tracking, and reporting program metrics, including product technical performance measures and key performance parameters
    • Conduct audits and reviews
    • Assess process and tool usage compliance
    • Conduct capability assessments
  • Requirements Engineering:
    • Contribute to the analysis of client and stakeholder needs
    • Develop and implement requirement management plans
      • Generate, develop, derive, allocate, control, and maintain requirements
      • Ensure requirement quality
    • Perform functional analysis
    • Develop measures for effectiveness and performance
  • Interface Management:
    • Contribute to the definition of the interface management process
    • Develop interface management plans
    • Ensure an effective, consistent, and systematic approach by which internal and external interfaces can be managed and coordinated during all phases of the project (through design, equipment supply, construction, installation, commissioning,
    • handover, and closeout)
    • Manage the interfaces between major railway subsystems (signaling, telecom, power supply, vehicle, ventilation, etc.)
  • Baseline Control:
    • Contribute to the development and implementation of configuration management plan
    • Establish and update baselines for requirements and evolving configurations
    • Establish and implement change control processes
    • Maintain traceability of configurations
    • Participate in configuration control boards
    • Participate in configuration item identification and status accounting
    • Participate in functional and physical configuration audits
  • Improvement:
    • Identify and propose project efficiency improvements, risk mitigations, and engineering opportunities, and focus and drive improvement efforts
  • Communication:
    • Support the Project Manager and Project Engineer in interface with client and partners as well as communications of project status, including risks, issues, failures, and successes, to executive management
Required Skills/ Knowledge:
  • Strong engineering and problem solving background
  • High level of abstract and critical thinking
  • Ability to simplify and articulate complex issues
  • Project leadership experience with planning and organizing multi-subsystem integrated projects
  • 3-5 years of experience with multiple major railway subsystems and engineering delivery on major metro system projects
Desired Skills/ Knowledge:
  • Extensive experience with major railway technology, procedures, products
  • Knowledge of metro, transit, commuter rail, and freight customers and systems in North America
  • Master's degree in engineering, engineering management, or related field
  • Italian Language skills
  • Bachelor's Degree
  • English- Proficient
