Job description
Hitachi Rail Honolulu JV (HRH) is looking for an enthusiastic self-motivated Estimator to work on our Honolulu Rail Project. As the successful candidate your ideas for continuous improvement and creativity are welcome. The position is based in Honolulu.

Provide appropriate contract management strategies for complex (class A) contracts to maximize the potential financial return while mitigating commercial risk.

  • Preparation of independent estimates for change proposals and change orders
  • Verification of Subcontractor estimates regarding additional work
  • Assessment of Subcontractor progress and variation claims to ensure compliance with the subcontract
  • Consult with clients, vendors, or other individuals to discuss and formulate estimates and resolve issues
  • Solicit subcontractors and material / equipment quotes for estimating purposes
  • Cultivate subcontractors / vendor relationships to ensure availability and to obtain competitive quotes
  • Assist Construction Manager in estimating change orders and in validating subcontractor proposals
  • Lead meetings with Subcontractors to develop complete scopes and discuss strategy
  • Monitor comparison of estimated costs to actual costs
  • Inform Construction Manager of any unique or unusual circumstances in a particular estimate
  • Performance of other related duties as required and assigned
Required Skills/ Knowledge:
  • Advanced computer skills with estimating software
  • Advanced computers skills with MS Office
  • 5 years of electrical estimating experience
  • Knowledge of construction costs and engineering principles
  • Knowledge of Electrical and Telecommunications installation methods and costs
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Well organized, flexible and detailed-oriented
  • Demonstrated ability to meet deadlines while constantly changing tasks and demands
  • Effective presentation skills
  • Analyze drawings, specifications, technical provisions, and other project documentation as required to prepare time, cost, and labor estimates for projects
Desired Skills/ Knowledge:
  • Subcontract Administration experience
  • Rail transit expertise
  • Design-Build experience
  • Bachelors' Degree or equivalent work experience
  • English- Proficient
