Lead Engineering Technician

Hitachi America, Ltd. ( is searching for an experienced Engineer to join the Power Systems Division on the Proton Beam Therapy System equipment service and maintenance project at St. Judes hospital in Memphis, TN. The Proton Beam Therapy System is recognized worldwide as a state-of-the-art system for cancer treatment, composed of a particle accelerator, rotating gantry and its control systems etc. The position requires Test/Electrical/Mechanical knowledge and field experience. 



・Maintains close contact among the relevant groups of site organization.

・Issue commissioning activity logs based on drawings and test procedures.

・Learn the operation for subsystems of the Proton Beam Therapy System.

・Understand the control system, mechanical, electrical, vacuum, and water cooling system and hospital infrastructure for the Proton Beam Therapy System

・Learn and understand how to use the measurement devices, tools and jigs for test. 

・Troubleshooting and solve issues for equipment (control/electrical/mechanical)



・Bilingual in Japanese is required.

·  BS degree in Engineering or a related discipline is required.

・A minimum of 5-7 years of Test/Commissioning/Medical/Electrical/Mechanical experience.

・Preference for the knowledge or experience of particle accelerator system, RF system, vacuum

system, X-ray imaging system, dosimetry equipment, gantry, multi-axis robot or other radiotherapy equipment. 

・Preference for the knowledge and usage experience of electrical measurement equipment such as oscilloscope, spectrum analyzer, function generator, laser tracker, Helium leak detector, water phantom etc.

・Must have basic knowledge of MS word, MS- Excel(macro usable skills helpful), and Latest PC technology.

・Interpretation of technical drawings, sketches, wiring diagrams and schematic diagrams.

・Measurement experience using some software tools.

・Must be flexible for time shift work or night, weekend, and holiday shift work.

・ Must demonstrate ability to work well with various personnel demonstrating a good attitude and ability to work successfully as a member of the team.



Work environment

・The Engineering Technician will work at times in an environment where devices can produce high levels of radiation. Must be able to work in an area with devices using compressed gases, high voltage and radioactive materials while following the site safety and radiation safety procedures.

・Ability to work in close vicinity to electromagnets that could create electromagnetic interference (EMI).

・Must be flexible to work day or night shifts for commissioning.
