Under the direction of a group manager, is responsible for facilitating open issue resolution for new and existing product designs for oil pumps, water pumps, balance shaft products and other Mechanical ICE products.
The primary responsibility of this position is to be a technical liaison residing at the customer’s facilities used in ICE powertrain applications (primarily oil pumps, water pumps and balance shafts). Major responsibilities include technical evaluation of new business prospects, action item tracking and development of design documentation. This position is required to work directly with customer engineers on company products. This position is also responsible to ensure that program goals are met, schedules are maintained, and problems encountered during the development process are satisfactorily resolved. The individual must demonstrate the ability to organize, add value to and communicate information on a global basis to suppliers, customers and other divisions alike. That information may include but not be limited to design information such as a DFMEA, DVP&R, technical specifications or drawings. Additionally, this position is required to work with other project team members and engineers to report on and resolve issues related to design. This position may be required to periodically travel both domestically and internationally. The position may require accompanying customers to Hitachi production sites in support of the company’s product.
The ideal candidate will:
Possess a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering as a minimum.
Have a minimum of two (2) years applicable product experience and minimum of (5) years in the automotive engineering field.
Have experience with the fundamentals of automotive cooling and oiling system design.
Have an understanding of aluminum die casting and machining, typical problems encountered in production and how they are solved.
Have experience in DFMEA, DVP&R, GD&T and APQP
Be familiar with automotive component and engine test procedures, life cycle testing, tear-down analysis and be generally knowledgeable in the powertrain development process.
Have experience with preparing design specifications, design documentation and test procedures.
Have experience successfully interfacing and negotiating with customers.
Ability to learn quickly and support a variety of products is a plus.
Ability with 3D CAD such as CATIA, NX or SolidWorks is a plus.
Additionally, the ability to work independently with minimal direction is required as are strong verbal and written communication skills. Experience with PCs and application software, such as MS Office tools and Lotus Notes are also required.
