Your new role

Hitachi Rail Limited are currently recruiting for buyers to join us at our state of the art offices in London. You will be working as a part of our global service and maintenance procurement team, reporting to the Head of Category Management for business operations and corporate. In this role, there is also the option of flexibility for you to be based at any of our other TMCs, or in our London offices, depending on your location.


In this exciting new role, you will be responsible for managing all third party supplier arrangements including sourcing and contracting, contract lifecycle management and commercial supplier management to deliver competitive advantage to Hitachi Rail Limited.


Specifically, you will be responsible for the following deliverables:

  • Manage, review and validate purchase requests and engage with requestor as required to confirm purchase needs

  • Review and analyse business purchase needs to determine best sourcing strategy to meet requirements in line with any relevant category strategies

  • Enforce compliance to use of existing contracted suppliers wherever contracted suppliers are able to meet the purchase need and provide value for money

  • Identify and source potential suppliers based on purchase needs provided by stakeholder and relevant category strategies

  • Maximise competitive sourcing opportunities wherever possible

  • Obtain stakeholder input to develop statement of works or requirements containing detailed requirements and supplier expectations

  • Negotiate and agree best pricing and terms and conditions with selected suppliers using legal support as required

  • Manage contract approval and signature processes in line with delegated authorities and standard operating procedures

  • Report savings using established procurement savings methodologies

  • Share best practice and experience with procurement colleagues to continuously improve sourcing delivery and consistency

  • Proactively develop, build and maintain productive working relationships with key business partners and suppliers

  • Ensure 100% alignment and delivery of the Global Procurement targets for Service Maintenance, operation and  Supply Chain

  • Deliver high quality solutions to meet the purchase requirements of the Service and Maintenance organisation, delivering value, cost out solutions

  • Demonstrate effective stakeholder management ensuring delivery of commitments to key stakeholder areas relevant to the wider business

  • Ability to balance total cost of ownership (TCO), strategic and tactical delivery

  • Ensuring adherence to the supplier COC

About you
  • Relevant Procurement & Category management experience
  • Worked in multi-functional teams
  • Strong negotiation skills
  • Understanding of Contract law and contract drafting for different types of Product / Services
  • Knowledge of bid evaluation using whole life cycle cost model
  • Cost saving methodology
  • Sound Commercial acumen
  • Can represent / interact across all levels of the business
  • Good knowledge of Excel and other Microsoft office packages & SAP or equivalent MRP system


  • Member of The Chartered Institute of Purchasing and Supply (Preferred) – or working towards
  • Highly motivated and can work with minimum supervision
  • Excellent communication skills
