Your new role


As a Logistics Planner, you’ll be working as part of our busy Logistics team interacting with stakeholders across the business and external suppliers!

In this exciting new role you will manage the consolidation of cargo, bookings and supporting requirement for operational cargo movements across all modes between the UK and EU.


Specifically, you will be responsible for the following deliverables:

  • Development of consolidation proposals for the movement of cargo between suppliers across Europe and the Hitachi Rail facilities in the UK.
  • The making of all the required bookings in support of the business by all relevant modes including Road, Rail, Air and Short Sea Crossings.

  • The provision of correct customs instructions to designated customs agents.

  • The support or the collation for the audit requirements in support of Customs Declarant Records.

  • The support of operational and line management to ensure smooth and accurate operational delivery of logistics services.

  • The support of stakeholders within and without the business in the smooth delivery of logistics services.

  • Maintenance support of bookings database and allocation of correct PO coverage to the relevant services according to the correct project allocation.

  • Service selection and where necessary justification in support of operational logistics requirements.

  • Develop continuous improvement plans with strategic suppliers to accelerate the development of supplier capabilities through collaboration, increasing value and pursuing further cost reduction.

  • Undertake contract reviews of existing agreements and exploit opportunities to make in-contract life savings.

About you

  • A self-starter able to manage independently in a time pressured and challenging environment.
  • Good time management skills: managing priorities and adherence to deadlines.

  • Able to negotiate service delivery and making suitable arrangements directly with supply chain and logistics providers.

  • Appreciation of cost saving methodologies and logistics optimisation.

  • Good commercial acumen and data presentation skills with an ability to support, influence and persuade stakeholders

  • Good working knowledge of Excel and other Microsoft office packages

  • Strong work ethic, highly motivated and able to work with minimum supervision

  • Able to travel to other HRL sites and supplier locations

  • Strong influencing, networking and team working skills

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills 

  • Demonstrates perseverance, patience and commitment for long term success

  • Good organisation/time management

  • Enjoys challenges and problem solving. 

  • Highly organised and methodical


Qualifications

  • Educated to an appropriate level or experience.
  • Member of The Chartered of Logistics and Transport (ideal not essential) or relevant experience.
