General Description:
 
The Senior Field Service Engineer’s (SFSE) primary objective is to provide support activity to all levels and various types of service calls.  The SFSE will spend a portion of their time providing basic training to others both in a classroom setting and on the job.  The SFSE can schedule all service within their territory at the discretion of their manager.  The SFSE will be responsible for ordering and maintaining sufficient traveling inventory to support customers.  Generally, a SFSE will possess the ability to service a wide range of instrument models within a product line in the assigned territory with minimal supervision. 
 
 
Primary Responsibilities:
 
  • Maintain appropriate records of all work performed and training received
  • Comply and adhere to company policies
  • Must have and retain valid driver’s license in Resident State.  Must be insurable by our insurance company
  • Must be eligible for and receive company credit card
  • Portray professionalism and pride in appearance while conforming to policy
  • Provide a Positive attitude to all employees and customers
  • Complete assigned formal training with a grade of 80 or more on the test(s)
  • Complete assigned On the Job Training (OJT), with the goal of instrument certification
  • Manage and maintain traveling inventory according to department policy and procedure
  • Protect and maintain company property (i.e., traveling inventory, company care, test equipment, tools, etc.)
  • Pick up and return messages and service calls from customers in a manner meeting service department policies
  • Willingness to relocate and/or travel
  • Set and keep appropriate schedules for service on the assigned equipment
  • Provide highly detailed documentation for the purpose of problem resolution and/or engineer training
  • Demonstrate ability to transfer technical knowledge to less experienced engineers through OJT and classroom training
  • Demonstrate ability to work independently with limited supervision successfully
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

Education Requirements:
 
  • BS degree in Electronics/Electrical Engineering or equivalent combination of education and experience
 


Experience Requirements:

 
  • 2 years of experience using digital volt meters, oscilloscopes, hand tools, and computers
  • 2 years of experience disassembling and assembling intricate parts as related to selected instruments
  • Basic Knowledge and understanding of Physics and Chemistry
  • Knowledge of analog and digital circuitry as applied to our equipment
  • Must be available to travel to various customer sites as directed by management
  • Although most travel will be within the assigned district, some domestic and/or international travel to a customer location may be required up to 25%
 
 
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
 
  • Demonstrate strong work ethic
  • Demonstrate strong verbal and written communication skills with management, co-workers, internal and external customers
  • Ability to effectively communicate information to customers and manager regarding service activities and schedules
  • Ability to work without instructions
  • Ability to perform moderately complex service calls relating to instruments learned
  • Ability to complete system installation including Advanced Customer Training
  • Ability to perform OJT or classroom training to other Field Service Engineers on basic system level troubleshooting
  • Ability to work from schematics using various test equipment and mathematical calculations specific to electronics
  • Ability to effectively interface with customers, service department personnel and others
  • Ability to provide preventive maintenance and emergency service on several instruments or product lines
  • Ability to completely install specified instruments
  • Ability to give Advanced Customer training
  • Ability to install or setup equipment at Sales Shows
 
 
Other Requirements:
 
  • Ability to use a laptop computer, monitor, keyboard, and mouse with or without accommodations
  • Ability to use a telephone, smartphone device, copy machine, fax machine, and other office equipment with or without accommodation
  • Must comply with all corporate safety requirements and directives
  • Flexible working hours that occasionally includes authorization to work from home or work off-site
  • Expected to use PPE when required which can include safety glasses, protective gloves, steel tipped shoes, and more
  • Follow all equipment specific safety protocols
  • Complete assigned formal training with a grade of 80% or better on all tests
  • Maintain a professional appearance and demeanor at all times, especially when interacting with other employees, management, and customers
 
 
Physical and Mental Requirements:
 
  • Ability to see small objects within a confined area
  • Ability to identify and distinguish color-codes
  • Ability to quickly transport from location to location (i.e., air, car, etc.)
  • Ability to transport parts and tool box from car to equipment site
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs
  • Hand-eye coordination at a level to support a range of activities from very fine (delicate) to large, leveraged type items
  • Ability to communicate and receive communication via telephone
  • Ability to drive an automobile
  • Ability to hear audible noises
