This is a unique opportunity to establish a new team in our growing Service and Maintenance division, to establish a specialist PMO team. As the Business Portfolio Manager you’ll be in a critical role, establishing the new team and establishing project governance. . Reporting into the Group Head, you provide reports and updates to help drive decision making for the group.
Specifically, you will be responsible for the following deliverables:
Prioritising, coordinating and governing group project objectives for existing and new programmes and projects.These will vary from IT Support or already funded/ongoing mobilization/ BAU Projects, to major Transformation/Strategic Projects such as component overhaul, in order to reduce component and maintenance lifecycle costs.
Understanding each Project and Program within their portfolio, their team members to forecast the financial plan, understand performance KPIs, trends, risks and opportunities and take decisions that steers the portfolio to achieve a desired mix and expected financial and non-financial outcomes.
Aligning the programs to that of the portfolio, through effective resource loading and regular communication. Ensuring that each functional area is prioritising their work and delivering towards agreed strategic objectives, influencing key team members to drive actions to deliver against plans.
Partnering with the end users, work with project sponsors and other senior management to establish progress and direction of the portfolio by solving problems, mitigating risks and road mapping future initiatives. As a focal point for ensuring and instilling Project Management best practice, you will integrate the group projects and work of wider teams seamlessly to develop a cohesive and high performing project delivery mentality.
Successful fulfilment of this role, in line with the ‘One Hitachi’ ethos, will be achieved through effective co-ordination of all key internal and project teams located in the UK, Italy and Japan.
Strong operational, commercial leadership and people management skills with excellent stakeholder engagement at all levels, able to motivate people towards reaching challenging goals.
Capable of leading operational teams, proficient in resource and budget management in a high growth environment.
Substantial professional experience in projects, programme or operational management at a senior level, including working in collaboration with executive/board-level.
Previous experience in developing and administering company-wide resourcing forecasts, budgets and plans, with ability to set clear targets and deliverables within a tight programme environment.
Proven ability to co-ordinate existing and new teams (in different countries) to deliver an integrated project plan.
Excellent relationship-building/management skills with internal and external customers, stakeholders, subcontractors and suppliers at all levels.
Strong business acumen; understands the key financial drivers and dynamics related to growth and revenue goals, demonstrates the ability to identify business needs and develop pragmatic solutions.
Strong verbal, written communication and influencing skills – articulate and comfortable communicating with staff at all levels up to and including global board members level. Able to influence through negotiation and persuasion using accurate data and factual information.
Proven ability to challenge, convince and manage multiple stakeholders.
Experience of working in a global matrixed organisation and proven ability to work effectively within a multi-cultural environment including peers, direct reports, senior and Exec level management team.
Knowledge of Hitachi Rail and the wider Hitachi business.
Previous experience in working with/in Italian and Japanese culture/organisations.
Knowledge of the needs of train operators / infrastructure owners / railway equipment suppliers in UK.
A strategic thinker with strong executional skills - with the ability to see broad challenges affecting the company and to recommend programmed actions accordingly.
Confident team leader, with a strong presence and a natural ability to motivate.
Resilient and able to assess and manage multiple and conflicting priorities effectively.
