Your new role


Hitachi Rail are looking for talented a Team Technician to work in Slades Green, Dartford. This is a fixed term contract and is working on a rotating shift basis.


We are looking for a dedicated and talented individual to service, fault find and repair Hitachi Traction equipment. In this exciting role, you will be working in a dynamic work environment that values collaboration, adaptability and creativity.


Specifically, you will be responsible for the following deliverables:

  • Maintain the condition of the work site, materials and equipment

  • Adhere to health, safety, environmental & quality practices in the workplace

  • Prepare for and undertake planned and unplanned maintenance activities

  • Confirm that traction and rolling stock assets comply with operational specifications by the use of engineering processes and techniques

  • Read and extract information from traction and rolling stock drawings and specifications

  • Prepare for and undertake the removal and replacement of traction and rolling stock components

  • Modify or manufacture traction and rolling stock components by material removal using hand tools

  • Assemble traction and rolling stock components using engineering processes and techniques

  • Install new traction and rolling stock components using engineering processes and techniques

  • Identify, assess and rectify defects and discrepancies on Hitachi rolling stock assets

  • Identify repeat defects on Hitachi rolling stock assets and suggest / carry out repairs

  • Create technical scopes of work for fault rectification by other members of staff

  • Support Slade Green (train operating company) technicians and engineers with regards reliability improvements to rolling stock assets

  • Attend and provide technical support with failures in service when on duty

  • Provide operational support to users of Hitachi rolling stock assets

  • Keep Equinox record system up to date with clear and concise information of work carried out.

  • Compile period report detailing 465 traction maintenance performance

  • Attend quarterly meeting with the customers, provide date for quarterly report

  • Develop professionally and support good working relationships

  • Learn new skills in accordance with Hitachi’s new business demands as required

  • Liaise with Hitachi and external personnel as required to complete the duties of the post


About you

  • Stock-Specific maintenance and fault finding

  • Experience in a modern maintenance rolling stock environment.
  • Powered plant and tools – air / 110v


  • M & E HNC or served apprenticeship with mechanical, electrical disciplines

  • Engineering based NVQ level 3

  • Sound knowledge of, and compliance to, rules and regulations

  • Good written and verbal communication skills
  • Able to represent Hitachi in a professional manner at all times

  • Good team worker
  • Intermediate IT skills – typically Word, Excel

  • AC/DC Depot isolation

  • Moveable plant
  • Driving Licence

  • Manual Handling
  • Network Rail Sentinel PTS
  • Crimping competence & assessment
