Your new role

In this exciting new role you will provide RAMS expertise supporting in all relevant business areas, across all phases of a project! You’ll ensure that RAMS plans are developed, implemented and maintained consistently across all fleet programmes.

Specifically, you will be responsible for the following deliverables:

  • Define, Develop, Review and validate RAMS plans to ensure compliance to EN50126
  • Act as RAMS project lead for bids and tenders
  • Ensure correct planning of V&V RAMS activities
  • Ensure correct identification and apportionment of RAMS requirements for Rolling stock applications
  • Guarantee execution of RAMS analyses and provide feedback to project engineering teams
  • Define RAMS Requirements for the relevant project and ensure application to the relevant Project / Design Engineer
  • Guarantee verification of system requirements in order to confirm compliance with safety and customer requirements
  • Ensure that all conformities identified during V&V activities are recorded, analysed and implemented
  • Ensure execution of Safety and RAM analyses, hazard analyses leveraging on knowledge of the application acquired during V&V activities
  • Support the validation team in management and interfacing with Independent Safety Assessor, Client and other external Authorities
  • Support operational teams with Field based RAMS analysis and yield recommendations for reliability and performance improvements.
  • Establish systems integration models and develop reliability targets to support the development of Hitachi Rail’s Maintenance Strategy
  • Collate and review supplier FMECA data across all projects, conduct and take part in FMECA Workshops.

About you

  • Flexibility to travel to sites in the UK but also so occasional international travel
  • Calm and diplomatic under pressure

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Essential Experience

  • Advanced understanding of EN50126 and associated RAMS / V&V methodology
  • Practical knowledge of Reliability theory and modelling processes
  • Experienced user of Isograph reliability workbench modules
  • Outstanding Safety Awareness gained in a safety critical operational environment
  • Robust knowledge and experience of engineering standards
  • Advanced IT skills – Excel (Macros), Access (Database development)
  • Excellent report writing and communication capabilities
Desirable Experience
  • Previous RAMS Experience
  • Previous experience in the use of appropriate safety engineering techniques, such as PHA, FTA, FMEA etc.
  • CEng or working toward charted status
  • Engineering test, approvals and commissioning experience preferably gained from implementation of large engineering projects
  • Reading electrical, pneumatic, mechanical schematics and drawings
  • Power BI user / development


  • Degree or equivalent qualified engineer or relevant proven experience

  • Previous experience of high value bids and engineering design process

  • Previous experience in product quality and reliability engineering
