Senior Signaling Configuration Engineer

Hitachi Rail STS USA, Inc. is seeking a Senior Signaling Configuration Engineer to work in Pittsburgh, PA. The Engineer will perform the following duties: (i) determine test objectives and test strategies for the project; (ii) author the Test Plan based upon the department standards and project needs; (iii) plan test activities within the project schedule and estimate the hours required to conduct all Test and Quality Assurance activities; (iv) identify the scope of the testing required for each release; (v) create test plans, protocols, procedures and cases for each release; (vi) assure all test documentation is complete prior to the start of the test cycle; (vii) execute tests according to defined test plans, procedures and cases; (viii) identify and log defects in the defect tracking tool; (ix) assist with the classification, management and resolution of all software defects; (x) monitor test progress and provide frequent progress reports to project team during test cycle; (xi) participate in program, design and document reviews (including requirements reviews); (xii) at the end of a test cycle publish metrics of test results in a timely manner; (xiii) work with project team and Functional Management to identify areas for improvement; (xiv) actively facilitate the coordination and completion of the scheduled tasks with team members; (xv) allocate test resources based upon skills and capabilities; (xvi) identify skill gaps and provide guidance to junior resources; and (xvii) assist the Functional Manager in the establishment/modification of department processes and follow/document all work associated with the assigned responsibilities fully and accurately.

Position requires a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Electronic Engineering, or Computer Engineering, as well as five (5) years of experience in a signaling configuration engineering position for rail control solutions.

Experience required with the following: (i) five (5) years of experience in software development and test life cycle, including experience with leading testing efforts, as well as experience with creating software verification and validation testing plans, in accordance with European Railway CENELEC standards, including V&V processes under CENELEC 50128; (ii) experience with defining and managing lab, factory and field integration test activites, including Automatic Train Dispatch sub-systems, embedded or distributed microprocessor based interlocking substems (MicroLok or WSP Interlocking), SCADA System, platform screen door systems, platform information display systems, and Train Carborne Controller Interface Systems; (iii) experience managing software documentation and testing documentation using Siemens Team Center PLM Tool, IBM Rational ClearCase and IBM Rational Team Concert; (iv) experience performing quality control/quality assurance activities, Verification and Validation, and managing related activities, including test planning, test execution and reporting and software defects/changes tracking using collaborative quality and test management tools, including IBM Rational Quality Manager; (v) experience with Quality Assurance practices; (vi) experience with Linux or UNIX operating system and networking concepts (serial, TCP/IP, Modbus Protocol Interfaces, and Network Data Analyszer), and Shell and Python scripting; (vii) experience authoring test procedures, peer review of procedures and executing test procedures; (viii) experience with software defect managemen, managing test reporting, test schedules and risk analysis; (ix) experience with assuring software test practices at CMMI Level 3; (x) experience with performing static analysis of critical software failures and scenarios; (xi) experience with peer review software design, architecture and subsystem level interface design documents; and (xii) experience with adherence to standard QA practices within the organization.
