We are leading the largest rail modernisation project in UK history and delivering the UK’s next generation of rolling stock. We are working to Inspire the Next – and this is your chance to be part of it.

Your new role

In this exciting new role you will work as part of our Train Testing team, who test all our new fleets! It’s a complex operation which means having clear structure and plans in place is integral. As a Test Planner you’ll be responsible for ensuring every project/bid has a robust plan/programme, which is updated weekly and used to inform efficient delivery.

Specifically, you will be responsible for the following deliverables:

  • Establish and maintain planning processes and guidelines which support and encourage good planning.
  • Work closely with the Project Management Office (PMO) & the Rolling Stock (RS) Planning team to ensure Project Validation Team planning integrates with the PMO and RS Planning team.

  • Lead the Project Validation Teams through the development of Project Validation P6 Programmes for Bids and Projects.

  • Develop reporting and KPIs to support the resource forecasting, efficient delivery and tracking of Project Validation Team performance; including weekly look ahead.

  • Update Project Validation P6 Programme once a week to inform progress tracking and future planning.

  • Support what if scenario planning when required.

  • Manage and track change in the programme.

  • Lead the quantification of risk in terms of the impact on delivery timescales, to ensure sufficient contingency is included.

  • The role holder will initially have responsibility for Planning across the Product Validation Team and all new projects.

  • Depending on workload in future the planning team may expand.

About you

To be successful in the role you’ll need to demonstrate the following skills and competencies:

  • Ability to solve complex planning optimisation problems, identifying how to achieve the best results with the minimum and/or constrained resources.
  • Understand the reporting and data needs of the other planning functions and develop solutions that allow these to be fulfilled.

  • Communicate effectively with staff within the team, the PMO, the RS Planning Team and the wider project team.

  • Comfortable constructively challenging Engineers and Managers to ensure plans are neither too optimistic nor pessimistic, with excellent communication and negotiation skills.

  • Demonstrable experience of working in a  multi-disciplinary engineering/technical team

  • Self-starter with ability to develop strong, constructive and focused relationships with internal and external stakeholders at all organisation levels.

  • Good attention to detail.

  • Able to work under pressure.

  • NVQ level 4/HND/HNC (or equivalent)

  • Ideally Planning Software Qualification (i.e. Primavera P6)
