Role Overview

 

The aim of this role is to support the development and delivery of strategic business planning and decision making, via robust financial planning and analysis, throughout the business.

 

Main Tasks and Responsibilities

 

Reporting to the Finance Manager, tasks shall include, but not be limited to:

 

  • Responsibility for leading, directing and managing the budget, mid-term reviews (MTRs), and re-forecasts; including co-ordination with Japanese colleagues

  • Driving improvements and ensuring that the reporting structures are working effectively and efficiently; monitoring cost centre expenditures on a monthly basis, including cost centre reviews

  • Ensuring robust forecasts of future financial performance, based on predicted revenue and cost profiles

  • Monitoring, reporting and forecasting the impact of external market variables (inflation, foreign exchange, economic growth) to ensure that risks are mitigated, and opportunities exploited wherever possible

  • Management reporting internally, both within HICSE and to Japan

 

Success in the role will be determined by performance such as:

 

  • Adhering to the HICSE Business Management System

  • Driving improvements, including efficiency, auditability, documentation, single point of failure elimination

     

Management of budgets / MTR process:

  • Preparing budget / MTR and supporting explanations to the business and parent company

  • Being the quality controller / gatekeeper for this process

  • Enforcing ‘keep it simple’ philosophy; making auditable, easy to follow comparisons (between planned versus actual), transparent and suitable for the audience

     

Cost and revenue management:

  • Closely working with the Project Controllers – Finance to understand the changes in project forecasts and impacts on costs / revenues

  • Product / margin analysis; driving development goals; evaluations of investments (value for money / margin improvement) and various ad-hoc exercises

  • Supporting Project Controllers – Finance with related analysis for our clients

  • Reviewing the work of the Financial Planning Assistant, relating to cost centre meetings

  • Validating and challenging the work of the Financial Planning Assistant to ensure consistency and quality

 

‘Large Bid’ Finance support:

  • Support, lead and direct the financial modelling for large bids

  • Reviewing the work of the Financial Planning Assistant performed on large bids

  • Providing wider assistance to the ‘Large Bid’ team, on an ad hoc basis

 

Management and reporting:

  • Needs to have a strong commercial background / business acumen to understand the impact of / mitigate against customer changes notices (variation orders)

  • Supporting the Leadership Team on strategic matters as required

  • Potential management of the Financial Planning Assistant in the future

  • Producing monthly performance reports; explanations of deviations for the management team and Japanese parent, including the ‘GK report’ (orders / P&L plan versus actual)

  • Over / under absorption analysis

  • Preparing of KPIs, reports, and financial aspects of the Board papers

  • Developing and mentoring of the Financial Planning Assistant


Qualifications

Key Skills and Experience

 

  • Must be a fluent Japanese speaker

  • Significant experience in finance, budgeting, cost control, and business planning roles

  • Experience in, or good understanding of, long term contract accounting and project costing

  • Demonstrated advanced Excel; VBA skills preferable and accounting systems

  • Very strong IFRS 15 practical skills, applicable to a project (software) based business

  • Qualified member of an accountancy body (CIMA / ACCA / ACA)

  • Attention to detail with strong organisation skills

  • Ability to work under pressure and deliver outputs in tight timescales

  • Excellent communication skills

  • Ability to take complicated scenarios and make clear, simple, efficient, and consolidated Excel models

  • Able to work independently and as part of a team

  • Demonstrable ability to build consensus, and proven ability to work across a multi-site organisation to successfully achieve results

  • Work closely with cost centre managers, whilst maintaining the independence of a Finance Professional

  • Experience of business planning and consolidation software would be an advantage

  • Ability to clearly explain financial concepts to non-financial people

  • Very good knowledge of Sage 50
