Your new role

 

In this exciting new role you will responsible for managing all front line depot technical support to reliability, availability and overall performance of HRL fleets.

 

Specifically, you will be responsible for the following deliverables:

 

General Management:

 

  • Provide support to HRL operations team for Fleet Engineering issues, including advanced fault finding support, initial root cause analysis of service incidents, maintenance first line technical support and depot supply chain support
  • Chair periodic Technical Meetings with relevant stakeholders to discuss fleet safety, reliability and passenger affecting issues and improvements
  • Responsible for inspiring, managing and growing an effective fleet engineering team, building a culture of trust, continuous improvement and collaboration
  • Report on fleet engineering activities on a regular basis to the Head of Field Engineering, ensuring accurate and timely reporting of the relevant Key Performance Indicators
  • Work collaboratively with the Operations, Plans and Performance and Supply Chain to support work streams and changes as required
  • Ensure that Environmental, Health and Safety, engineering and quality standards and procedures are adhered to

 

 

 

People Management:

 

  • Provide leadership to teams under direct control. Coach, mentor and develop direct reports to provide a high performing team that delivers continuous improvement, added value and cost reductions
  • Set department objectives and monitor ongoing progress and performance
  • Ensure strong communication between teams under leadership to facilitate exchange of information and in order to implement change and improvements
  • Ensure that the function operates in accordance with any health, safety and environmental policies and procedures
  • Complete regular performance reviews, manage attendance, holidays, disciplinary issues and procedures as appropriate

 

 

 

Relationship Management:

 

  • Act as HRL point of contact with TOCs, ROSCOs and other internal and external stakeholders for Fleet Engineering issues
  • Work collaboratively, negotiate and engage with key stakeholders to facilitate delivery and compliance with the engineering requirements

 

 

 

Self-Management:

 

  • Inspire and motivate the team, consistently manage performance firmly and fairly
  • Act in a self-aware and professional manner.
  • Engage in continuous improvement, providing an optimism and resilience in periods of change.
  • Perform consistently at a high level in a high pressured environment
  • Self-motivate and maintain professional conduct under pressure  

 

About you

 

Experience:

 

  • Significant experience of UK mainline rolling stock engineering and maintenance.
  • Extensive operational experience
  • Ability to add value, reduce costs and make business improvements
  • Demonstrable experience of leading an engineering team with a proven track record in engineering leadership, delivering effective engineering strategies, policies, processes and systems

Skills:

 

  • Proven leadership and management skills with the ability to optimise team performance and development
  • Excellent relationship management skills with the ability to engage, negotiate and manage key stakeholders and suppliers
  • Strong and confident negotiator with the ability to negotiate at all levels
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal and influencing skills
  • Excellent analytical and problem solving abilities
  • Results orientated with ability to plan and deliver against deadlines
  • An appreciation of, and an ability to positively resolve issues arising from different cultures

 

Qualifications

 

  • BEng or MEng qualified engineer, or relevant experience
