Your new role
 

We are currently recruiting for a Control Room Manager to be based in Swindon. In this exciting role you will be responsible for the ongoing management of the Hitachi control room operations and support teams located in the operational control room.

 

Specifically, you will be responsible for the following deliverables:

  • Undertake the role of “Maintainer Control Room Contact” as set out in the TSA Contract.
  • Responsible for the ongoing management of the Hitachi control room operations and support teams located within the operational control room.
  • Responsible for ensuring that the customer has the required operational support from HRL.
  • Work closely with the Fleet planning manager to ensure that the long term plan is adhered to.
  • Ensuring that the control team record all defects reported by the customer in the SAP system accurately and IAW the Hitachi defect management procedure.
  • Contract Management and Compliance with regards to control room activities as required in the TSA Contract to include by not limited to:-
  • Adherence and management of the train performance regime.

  • Delivery and conception of the maintenance plan and associated requirements in connection with the relevant maintenance depots

  • Availability of train fleet and utilisation of spare trains.

  • Management of in-service provisions and faults including advice to the customer.

  • Capturing in service maintenance requirements from the operational fleet.

  • Recording and management and train re-allocation to depot with regards to damage, vandalism.

  • Access and maintenance of records to include control room logs, maintenance management system and remote train diagnostics.

  • Monitoring the fleet in service to ensure limited impact on the customer passenger operation, daily train maintenance and servicing plans.

  • Point of contract for Consultation, Allocation and Disputes with regards to the train service as necessary

  • Recording of KPI failures on KPI scorecards though the associated I.T. Systems and control room log

  • Co-operation with operator's performance improvement plans.

  • Document and record all control room activities and processes required to support the customer passenger service.
  • Management, co-ordination and deployment of technical riding inspectors to support the customer passenger service.
  • Delivery of the operational maintenance plans to be undertaken by the associated maintenance depots
  • Management and deployment of the Hitachi control team providing technical support for drivers and train-crew.
  • Ensure that the control team competent IAW the Hitachi competency model.
  • Ensure that the control team provide 24/7 support for the customer and that contingencies are in place to cover any eventuality.
  • Generate KPI reports for control room activities.
  • Develop professionally and support good working relationships with all stakeholders.
  • Create and driver personal development for all direct reports.
 
About you
 
Essential
  • Sound knowledge of railway operations
  • Technical understanding of traction and rolling stock
  • Strong leadership and management experience


Qualifications

  • Vocational engineering qualifications and experience
  • Management training qualifications or equivalent experience
 
Behavioural
  • Sound knowledge of, and compliance to rules and regulations

  • Good written and verbal communication skills
  • Able to represent Hitachi in a professional manner at all times

  • Good team worker and able to build relationship with other stakeholders

  • Capably of working in stressful environments for long periods of time

 
Desirable
  • Intermediate IT skills – typically Word, Excel, Equinox

  • Previous experience of using Genius, Trust, P2, is desirable but not essential

  • Previous experience of working in operational railway control rooms would be advantageous
