Your new role

In this exciting new role you will responsible for communicating with the team leader and team members to make sure that cleaning standards are achieved and exceed to highest standards. You will be responsible for following strict health and safety rules, knowing all cleaning specifications and familiarise yourself with the required workload. This role is based at our Craigentinny Train Maintenance Centre in Edinburgh and is working permanent nights.

Specifically, you will be responsible for the following deliverables:

  • Ensure the contracted cleaning services are delivered to the agreed contract specification and standards
  • Keeping a high standard of housekeeping
  • Checking cleaning equipment
  • Adhere to COSHH, Hygiene and general health and safety rules
  • To be aware of and actively promote and implement Hitachi’s ethos, culture and values.
  • To adhere to the Hitachi Rail Europe’s Equal Opportunities Policy.
  • To comply with and implement Hitachi Rail Europe’s Health and Safety policy.
  • To undertake any other reasonable duties and responsibilities as may be required

About you

Essential Requirements

  • Knowledge and experience of heavy industrial vehicle cleaning practices. Rolling stock cleaning experience preferred, but not necessary 
  • Excellent team engagement and good communication skills and effective customer service approach
  • Good written and verbal communications skills.
  • Good knowledge of Microsoft Office Products, word, excel, powerpoint
  • Experience of and commitment to the effective implementation of equal opportunities and CSR policies.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing
  • Commitment to working as part of a team
  • An understanding of health and safety requirements of a working environment


  • Previous experience of cleaning operations to a high standard
