In this exciting new role you will responsible for the Supervision of the Maintenance function and Facilities team at our state of the art manufacturing facility in Newton Aycliffe.
Specifically, you will be responsible for the following deliverables:
Champion and maintain a proactive Health, Safety and Environmental culture, embedding and sustaining the TAKE CARE principles.
Carrying out programmed Daily/Weekly/Periodic checks/reactive repairs for site plant rooms and services inc:-
Fixed plant – all plant equipment permanently linked into the site infrastructure e.g. Pump stations, waterproof test facility.
M+E (Mechanical and Electrical systems) – E.g. Site Heating, Venting and Cooling Systems, Low Voltage/High Voltage supply, electrical systems. Internal/External/Emergency Lighting.
Specialist Equipment – E.g. Depot protection system, bogie rotation equipment, traversers.
Investigate and rectify accordingly any reports of faults/breakdowns to plant and site infrastructure.
Carry out general maintenance of the site/office/buildings and their contents.
Perform inspections and planned/reactive maintenance of a mechanical and electrical nature to depot infrastructure systems.
Responsible for line management of Maintenance and Facilities Operatives.
Plan and monitor planned and reactive maintenance on all production equipment including cranes, shunters, traversers etc.
Co-ordinate Inspection and maintenance of lifting equipment.
To supervise and monitor external contractors, ensuring that they are carrying out work safely and to the correct standards.
Issue Work/Access Permits and maintain the permit register ensuring that all H&S paperwork is in place.
Continue to champion an ongoing positive working environment, ensuring it is maintained in line with corporate values.
Maintaining the skills balance and succession planning in the maintenance and facilities team. Ensuring we have the right skills mix, ready for future projects. Develop succession plans for critical roles in order to ensure we have a robust pipeline of talent. Grow, develop and retain high performing employees and apprentices in line with the succession plan.
Responding appropriately to emergencies or urgent issues as they arise which include out of hours periods.
Deputise for the maintenance and facilities manager in their absence as well as undertaking delegated authority on specific tasks as directed by the maintenance and facilities manager.
To be aware of and actively promote and implement Hitachi’s ethos, culture and values.

Licences / Competencies
Portable appliance testing equipment (company provides training)
MEWP Mobile elevated work platform (company provides training)
Knowledge of building systems/safety critical machinery/maintenance and construction techniques required.
Powered plant and tools-air/110v/Ability to operate and maintain tools and equipment.
Must possess intermediate computer skills for Word, Excel and Outlook/adapt to bespoke ITC systems.
Strong electrical skills, including installation and testing.
Sound knowledge of, and compliance to, rules and regulations.
Able to represent the Company in a professional manner at all times.
Good team worker with excellent interpersonal skills to work with all members of the Hitachi team.
Position holder must be able to interface effectively with all levels of personnel both within and outside the company and supervise other staff and contractors.
Ability to plan/develop, and monitor work schedules to ensure efficient use of personnel.
Time served apprenticeship (Mechanical or Electrical)
