Your new role

In this exciting new role you will develop and optimise maintenance plans and processes across all Hitachi fleets.

Specifically, you will be responsible for the following deliverables:

Lead team of Maintenance Optimisation Engineers to develop and optimise fleet Maintenance Plans and maintenance activities for all HRE maintained products

Lead the team of Reliability Engineers, responsible fleet reliability models and fleet reliability improvement plans.

Own the DRACAS process, ensuring that safety and reliability issues affecting the fleet are identified and corrective actions are completed in a timely manner

Work closely with Engineering Standards team to ensure HRE Maintenance Plans are developed and in line with all relevant standards where applicable

Own and continuously improve HRE Maintenance Policy and condition assessment plans

Own the life cycle cost (LCC) model for each fleet

Assist in level of repair analysis and definition of line replaceable units (LRU)

Provide maintenance planning support at all HRE depots

Act as a HRE point of contact with suppliers to maintenance requirements involving 3rd parties 

Liaise with Procurement/Maintenance Team members during the assessment and approval of new material suppliers to ensure that Maintenance, H&S and environmental needs are adequately identified / addressed.

About you

Experience of creating, delivering and maintaining a rail vehicle maintenance plan.

Experience of defining requirements for VMIs and VMPs.

Intermediate > Advanced IT skills – typically Word, Excel, Power Point, Outlook

Reading electrical, pneumatic, mechanical schematics and drawings reading

Outstanding Safety Awareness gained in an operational railway engineering environments.

Highly experienced in undertaking engineering change on modern rolling stock

Robust knowledge and experience of railway engineering standards and regulations.

Extensive experience of modern maintenance management systems (MMS) and associated reliability and available trend analysis.

Experience of undertaken reliability improvements plans and modifications without impacting on the maintenance plan or availability.

Previous experience of asset maintenance management systems on UK rolling stock

Previous experience in product improvement and reliability engineering on UK rolling stock


Degree or engineering qualification or equivalent proven railway experience

Membership of a recognised accredited engineering body (ideally)

Chartered status or evidence of working towards it (ideally)
