Your new role

In this exciting new role you will responsible for developing the vehicle maintenance plans and processes by employing maintenance improvement techniques and new technologies.


Specifically, you will be responsible for the following deliverables:

  • Continuously improve Train Maintenance Plans throughout the life of the units, ensuring high levels of safety, reliability and availability are met at all times
  • Developing Hitachi’s maintenance philosophy using condition based maintenance to assist in maintenance activities
  • Identification of new technologies & opportunities to optimise and improve the Train Maintenance Plans
  • Take part and where necessary, facilitate RCM development workshops
  • Work closely with the Maintenance Engineers to continuously improve maintenance activities to ensure the safety and reliability of Hitachi products whilst ensuring maintenance activities are adequate and cost effective
  • Collates and monitors vehicle Life Cycle Costs working closely with Maintenance Engineers and Materials Engineers to identify Optimisation opportunities, which have a positive effect on Life Cycle Costs and provide evidence in support of business cases
  • Liaise with bid teams where required to provide input and understand maintenance implications from the  tendering process
 
Continuous Improvement and Quality
  • Actively encourage identification of continuous improvement activities and implement and with significant cost savings
  • Actively encourage feedback to continuously improve business or functional process and procedures
  • Continuously develop cross functional and departmental processes
  • Assist the maintenance engineering team in delivering an optimised maintenance programme through effective and intelligent maintenance
  • Undertake lessons learnt reviews to ensure continual improvement
 
Finance and Commercial
  • Develop good relationships with customers and peers by ensuring consistent delivery of targets and escalations are dealt with promptly
  • Understand customer requirements to ensure plans are kept up to date and relationships maintained
  • Manage agreed deliverables in line with agreed KPI’s
 
About you

Knowledge and Experience

  • Extensive engineering experience at a similar level with large multi-discipline projects
  • Technical & Engineering skills, qualifications and experience
  • Extensive knowledge of operational/maintenance engineering practices and challenges
  • Proven ability to work under pressure and to tight deadlines
  • Good communication and inter personal skills and able to effectively communicate and report at all levels
  • Strong understanding in continuous improvement and belief in the process
  • Ability to anticipate problems and to take mitigating actions in advance of the problem being realised
  • Ability to identify, integrate and manage stakeholders

Qualifications

  • HNC or equivalent in an engineering discipline
