Your new role
 

We are currently recruiting for an Overhaul Manager based at our Ashford train maintenance centre. The successful candidate will be responsible for the management of overhaul activities of the Class 395 fleet. This is role is a permanent position.

 

Specifically, you will be responsible for the following deliverables:

  • Managing all Class 395 Overhaul and Heavy Maintenance activities.

  • Overhaul Vehicle Maintenance Schedule.
  • Processes, procedures and technical specifications.
  • Overhaul and delivery schedules.
  • Overhaul periodicity optimisation.
  • Encourage and develop best practice of overhaul and heavy maintenance procedures.

  • Ensure that overhaul and heavy maintenance activities are accurately reported and entered into data management systems.

  • Responsible for the delivery and completion of any unplanned heavy maintenance activities.

  • Manage heavy maintenance expectations in line with business KPI’s and targets.

  • Responsible for all Ashford Wheel lathe activities including sourcing new business.

  • Support and provide liaison with the customer with regards to fleet and contractual requirements as required.

  • Responsible for ensuring adequate levels of SSHEQ are maintained across departmental activities and compliant with company policy and Health & Safety at Work Act requirements.

  • Support and facilitate the creation and implementation of an overhaul and heavy maintenance Competency Management System (CMS) to be compliant with company policy.

  • Manage and control the department budgets through effective and efficient planning of resources.

  • Responsible for individual and team development including succession planning.

  • Encourage the concepts of continuous improvement into safety, quality, performance & cost.

  • Carryout investigations and manage disciplinary issues as required in accordance with company policy and procedures.

  • Support the TMC Manager in commercial and business development opportunities.

  • Develop professionally and support good working relationships.

  • Learn new skills in accordance with Hitachi’s new business demands as required.

  • Liaison with Hitachi and external personnel as required to complete the duties of the post.

  • Provide on call commitment in accordance with On Call Managers roster

 
About you
 
Essential
  • Extensive experience working within a rail maintenance environment.

  • Sound knowledge of, and compliance to, UK and European railway rules regulations and industry standards.

  • Proven experience in people management in an operational environment.

  • Read, extract and interpret information from technical drawings and specifications.

  • Sound knowledge of Reliability Centred Maintenance.
  • Intermediate IT skills – proficient in Word, Excel, Equinox.

  • Network Rail Sentinel PTS (training will be provided).


Qualifications

  • M & E HNC or served engineering apprenticeship.

  • Recognised Management Qualification.

  • Calm and diplomatic under pressure.

  • Holistic practical approach.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Able to represent Hitachi in a professional manner at all times.

  • Position holder must be able to interface effectively with all levels of personnel both within and outside the company.

  • Good team worker.
 
Desirable
  • Incorporated or Chartered Engineer status.

  • Experience in a heavy maintenance environment.
  • Additional IT skills – proficient in MS Project & Visio.
