Your new role

In this exciting new role you will be responsible for ensuring infrastructure is functioning correctly and available when required to support daily train fleet availability in line with contractual targets. This is a permanent position based at our state of the art train maintenance centre in Doncaster.

Specifically, you will be responsible for the following deliverables:

  • Responsible for TSA DACs and Annex contractual deliverables to include monthly, quarterly and annual reporting to Agility Trains to ensure Hitachi meets its contractual obligations under the TSA.


  • Management of the associated “Major Maintenance and Overhaul” plans to ensure that TSA financial draw down is achieved and that all facilities and assets are maintained, repaired, replaced and overhauled to meet the contractual milestones.
  • Responsible for operational planning and implementation of asset maintenance plans, call outs and repairs. This will include planning around daily operational requirements, contractors, spare parts & materials, staff availability and when required access to rolling stock and drivers.
  • Responsible for the financial control of the Facility Budget, work with the finance team to set yearly budgets for all TMCs and produce monthly finance reports with support of the finance department.
  • Work closely with TMC Facilities and BA colleagues to ensure effective implementation of the necessary procedures and practices across region. Focusing on company health, safety, quality and environmental polices/procedures.
  • Risk Management - Maintain a risk register to ensure that any risks to operational service delivery is adequately managed through effective risk management processes to reduce all risks to an acceptable level across the regional area of responsibility.
  • Responsible for producing monthly reports in line with relevant KPI’s and contractual requirements.
  • Responsible for the legal compliance with regards to asset maintenance and repair including but not limited to the following; PUWER – Provision & use of Work Equipment Regulations, LOLER – Lifting Operations and Equipment Regulations, L8 Water Management Regulations, Trade Effluent Conforms to license with water board/provider, Fire Safety – Fire Door & Fire alarm testing, Fire risk assessments, Electricity at Work/Fixed Wire Testing & PAT – Portable Appliance Testing.

  • Work with procurement and contract team to ensure external service provider contracts are implemented to the required standard. Establishment of fit for purpose service level agreements with support from the procurement and legal departments.
  • Responsible for periodic reports as required by other support functions to include but not limited to procurement, finance, contractual and health, safety and environmental reporting.
  • Undertake meetings as required with operational regional facilities teams to ensure a standardised approach is deployed across the regional area of responsibility.
  • Work with other business support functions to adopt a systematic approach to the development of documents, policies and procedures.

  • Support investigations, where required, reporting back findings to the relevant department/management team through the correct reporting structure.

  • Enforcement of operational policy’s processes, procedures, and development of proactive and positive cultures in relation to Safety and Environment.
  • Responsible for ensuring operational assets are maintained to Hitachi Rail Limited’s policies and procedural standards.
  • Assist and undertaken other duties as instructed by Line Management.



  • NVQ3 /C&G electrical or mechanical craft apprenticeship (Or relevant experience/qualification)
  • BIFM/IWFM Facilities Management (Or relevant experience/qualification)
  • Senior Level Management Experience including management of large teams
  • Demonstrable extensive rail knowledge
  • Institution of Occupational Safety and Health (IOSH) certification in Managing Safely. (Or relevant experience/qualification)
  • Intermediate IT skills – typically Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Microsoft Project.
  • L8 Legionella & the Role of the Responsible Person.
  • Experience of Permanent Way Asset Management and Network Rail Standards.
  • Previous experience of general routine building maintenance in an industrial environment is essential M+E, HVAC and Civil Engineering. IEE 18th Edition wiring regulations.
  • Powered Plant – Fork Lift Truck, MEWP and Maintenance of safety critical machinery.
  • Intermediate IT skills – typically Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Microsoft Project.
  • Schematics reading, Electronic Circuit Diagrams.
  • Contractor Management and work force resource implementation.
  • Management skills E.G Personal/Team Leadership, Contract/Negotiation Skills
  • Project Management skills
Behavioural Requirements
  • Sound knowledge of, and compliance to, Infrastructure legislation and regulations
  • Good written and verbal communication skills
  • Effective managerial and leadership skills across a multi-site operation
  • Able to represent Hitachi Rail in a professional manner at all times
  • Position holder must be able to interface effectively with all levels of personnel both within and outside the company.
  • Previous experience of quality, safety and environmental auditing in a rail / industrial environment preferred but not essential.
