We are currently looking to appoint a Head of Heavy Maintenance UK. The successful candidate will be responsible for planning and delivery of Heavy Maintenance across all UK fleets.  

 

Your new role

 

Specifically, you will be responsible for the following deliverables:

  • Operate as a key member of OS&M Operational Leadership Team (OLT).
  • Plan, execute and manage the Heavy Maintenance Programme for all UK Fleets.
  • Responsible for weekly and monthly Heavy Maintenance meetings with TMCs, clients & stakeholders.
  • Responsible for key technical decisions and competency assessments.
  • Responsible for internal Audit and quality checks.
  • Responsible for the implementation and control of maintenance systems, in accordance with rail standards and Entity in Charge of Maintenance certification.
  • Oversee the mobilisation of 3rd party contractors, including supply chain materials, engineering documentation & operational readiness.
  • Oversee market testing activity to generate benchmark of costings for system overhaul (engagement with all OEMs and potential 3rd parties for overhaul completion)
  • Responsible for the integration of field engineering and supply chain to support fleet availability.
  • Monitor TMC operational readiness
  • Monitor the contract management of OEMs to ensure operational readiness
  • Monitor logistics to/from suppliers to manage asset delivery
  • Support TMCs in the recruitment & training of staff as required
  • Provide direction and clearly communicate operational targets to teams, measuring performance against pre - determined targets.
  • Lead and develop a team of remote direct reports, providing coaching and support to help them succeed in their role. 
  • To be aware of and actively promote and implement Hitachi’s ethos, culture and values.
  • To be involved in Hitachi Rail Europe’s staff development and training and participate in PDP procedures.
  • To adhere to the Hitachi Rail Europe’s Equal Opportunities Policy.
  • To comply with and implement Hitachi Rail Europe’s Health and Safety policy.
  • To undertake any other reasonable duties and responsibilities as may be required.
 

About you

 

Essential Requirements

  • Proven experience at a senior operational level delivering service based operations within rail and with direct team leadership experience.
  • Experience of heavy maintenance and overhaul operations or similar MRO programmes. 
  • Proven track record in strategic leadership delivering effective operation/production strategies, policies, processes and systems.
  • Proactive approach to service delivery and management and able to deal effectively with people at all levels of business.
  • Experience and a proven record in continuous improvement including optimal utilisation of resources, monitoring annual budgets and delivering operational excellence.
  • Ability to work flexibly and, travel extensively and effectively within the UK.
  • Able to plan, analyse and solve complex problems in a robust and practical manner.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Resilient and able to work under pressure both individually and as a team.

Qualifications

  • Understanding of Business Systems and ERP solutions such as SAP.
 
Qualification
  • Degree qualification (or equivalent level), ideally in rail operations or similar.
  • Project Management training desirable.
