Your new role

We are currently recruiting for a Senior Production Manager based in our Stoke Gifford, Bristol train maintenance centre. In this exciting role, you will lead a team of Production Managers, Team Leaders, Engineers and Technicians to deliver the fleet on a daily basis for our customer including full responsibility for fleet availability and safety.
 
Specifically, you will be responsible for the following deliverables:
 
Leadership
  • Lead the daily and weekly production reviews, identifying and rectifying any non-compliance and deviation from the plan.
  • Develop the key performance metrics in order to drive production including deployed productivity, maintenance compliance, backlog, plan stability and load verses capacity.
  • Lead, manage and develop production staff, providing appropriate coaching and mentoring as required.
  • Lead and develop the depot production management team to ensure effective and efficient delivery of the maintenance plan in line with customer and business deliverables.
Production
  • Ensure all aspects of train maintenance including planned exams, defects, investigations, modifications, train presentation and cleaning are delivered to exceed customer expectations.
  • Ensure available, reliable and safe units are provided in line with customer dispatch requirements.
  • Map the value stream for production, identifying take time and process flow for planned maintenance completion.
  • Develop and implement maintenance concepts for optimal performance and cost effectiveness.
  • Lead on load and capacity management for the TMC.
  • Manage all staff rotas, leave, absence and training to ensure Minimum Shift Levels (MSL) are in place at all times.
  • Actively manage the backlog to ensure all defects are closed in a timely manner and in accordance with process.
  • Manage costs through the effective and efficient alignment and coordination of resources.
  • Provide technical management and assurance of 3rd party suppliers.
  • Ensure technical investigations are completed and root cause is established.
  • Liaise with functions such as Engineering and Supply Chain, as well as suppliers and Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) to identify, allocate, and leverage resources to enable the delivery of production.
  • Ensure all train presentation standards are met and KPI checks under the IEP Train Services Agreement (TSA) are carried out and recorded.
  • Ensure Lean tools and techniques are applied and industry best practice is implemented.
Safety
  • Deliver service provision where safety is a key priority and known risks are actively managed within operational requirements. 
  • Promote, support and comply with all health and safety practices in the workplace in accordance with the Health & Safety at Work Act (HSAW) 1974.
  • Ensure that all safety briefings are delivered, recorded and adhered to.
  • Ensure safety tours are completed and that accidents, incidents and near misses are reported.
 
Maintenance Compliance
  • Actively monitor service quality and through interaction and encouragement with teams, find solutions to make improvements.
  • Ensure compliance with Railways and Other Guided Transport Systems (Safety) Regulations 2006 (ROGS)
  • Ensure compliance with the Vehicle Maintenance Schedule (VMS); Vehicle Maintenance Instructions (VMI) and Vehicle Maintenance Procedures (VMP).
  • Ensure compliance with all defect management processes and procedures including repeat defects and deferred work.
  • Monitor maintenance standards, ensure in process checks are carried out and non-compliances are rectified with VMIs amended as required.
Quality & Standards
  • Ensure compliance with engineering and quality standards, industry regulations and contractual obligations.
  • Ensure all audits are completed in accordance with the schedule, and all NCRs closed and OFIs implemented in accordance with agreed timelines.
  • Monitor and ensure the quality of all data and information within the SAP Maintenance Management System (MMS)
Training & Competency
  • Ensure the technical competence of staff and compliance with regulations in regards to the completion of safety critical work.
  • Manage the personal and professional development of all production staff.
  • Identify, evaluate and understand any capability gaps and put in place training and education to rectify where required.
Other
  • Report progress, prepare performance reports and give verbal briefs and presentations as required.
  • Undertake Continuing Professional Development (CPD) in accordance with Hitachi’s new business demands as required.
 
About you
 
Essential
  • Previous experience of maintenance production planning and execution.
  • Comprehensive understanding of practical reliability improvements.
  • Sound knowledge of railway operations and previous experience of rolling stock maintenance.
  • Sound knowledge of railway rules and regulations.
  • Experience of Computerised Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS) – SAP, Maximo or Equinox.
  • Excellent planning and problem solving skills.

Qualifications

  • Formal qualifications in mechanical/electrical engineering (degree level) or evidence of working experience equivalent to this level and 5 years of production management experience.
  • Leadership & management qualifications or equivalent experience.
  • Professional registration (or working towards) of engineering institution or Institution of Railway Operators.

Desirable
  • Continuous Improvement (CI) track record and Lean Six Sigma experience.
  • Project management skills & experience.
  • Sound business and management acumen.
  • Intermediate IT skills – Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint.
