Your new role
 
Hitachi Rail are looking for a talented Overhaul Technician to join our Train Maintenance Centre in Ashford. This is a permanent role working on a rotating shift basis. We are looking for a dedicated and talented individual to perform overhaul and maintenance activities on Hitachi rolling stock. In this exciting role, you will be working in a dynamic work environment that values collaboration, adaptability and creativity.
 
Specifically, you will be responsible for the following deliverables:
 
Overhaul Programme
  • Prepare for and undertake the removal and replacement of traction and rolling stock components
  • Assemble and install traction and rolling stock components using engineering processes and techniques
  • Carry out planned modification tasks on Hitachi rolling stock assets
  • Confirm that traction and rolling stock assets comply with operational specifications by the use of engineering processes and techniques
  • Keep Equinox and Wraps up to date with clear and concise information of work carried out
  • Carryout Post Overhaul Inspections
 
Corrective Maintenance
  • Assess and undertake any defect rectification on Hitachi rolling stock assets
  • Carryout repairs to traction and rolling stock following technical scopes of work
  • Read and extract information from traction and rolling stock drawings and specifications
  • Modify traction and rolling stock components by material removal using hand tools
 
Safety/Security/Health/Environment/Quality
  • Ensure compliance of health, safety, environmental & quality practices in the workplace
  • Identify and deal with hazards in the railway environment
  • Maintain the condition of the work site, materials and equipment
  • Support good house-keeping and waste management initiatives
  • Identify and provide continuous improvement suggestions
 
Additional Tasks
  • Develop professionally and support good working relationships
  • Learn new skills in accordance with Hitachi’s business demands as required
  • Assist in the development of maintenance & continuous improvement processes
 
About you
 
Essential
  • Train and rolling stock maintenance and faultfinding experience.
  • Strong electrical and mechanical knowledge
  • Proven ability to solve technical problems using fault finding techniques
  • Competent in the use of Crane Systems, Fork Lifts and Mobile Scaffolding Platforms
  • Test Track Isolations
  • Crimping competence & assessment
 

Qualifications

  • M & E HNC or served apprenticeship with mechanical/ electrical disciplines
  • Engineering based NVQ level 3
 
Behavioural
  • Sound knowledge of, and compliance to, rules and regulations
  • Good written and verbal communication skills
  • Able to represent Hitachi in a professional manner at all times

  • Intermediate IT skills – typically Word, Excel
