Your new role

In this exciting new role you will be the Lead Electrical Engineer on both existing projects and support future projects!

Specifically, you will be responsible for the following deliverables:

  • Design support for Systems on Hitachi’s range of metro, commuter and high speed trains. The lead engineer will work closely with Hitachi Kasado, Mito and HRI Engineers to design the concept, detailed and final designs for new rolling stock projects.
  • Provide leadership and systems expertise into the approval process (certification and testing) for all new systems, providing guidance to the factory where required.

  • Determining the design requirements for Traction Systems based on train performance and customer requirements

  • Make proposal to the factory to improve reliability of current design

  • Working closely with the test and commissioning teams, supporting the approvals process

  • Where required, supporting the design process/supplier selection

  • Supplier management including fault investigation process

  • This is a key role and the lead engineer will act as the interface between the UK, Italian and Japanese engineering teams. Some travel in Europe and to Japan is expected.

  • Lead and manage a team of engineers, defining actions plan and requirements and ensuring KPIs according to business priorities.

  • Assist, where necessary, with technical support for existing Hitachi products.

  • Participate in customer facing design reviews, provide bid support and management for new products and technical support for contract reviews.

About you

 

Essential Requirements

  • Knowledge of Train configuration, train performance, and high power electric circuit

  • Experience of designing/testing train systems

  • Knowledge of the UK/EU Railway Operations, Engineering and standards

  • Good English language skills, Ability to communicate effectively

  • Experience of and commitment to the effective implementation of equal opportunities and CSR policies.

  • Ability to take leadership and provide managerial guidance to the team’s members

  • Commitment to working as part of a team

  • An understanding of health and safety requirements of a working environment

Desirable Requirements

  • Experience in journey time and energy consumption simulation
  • Knowledge of Rolling Stock Approvals (RGS Standards, TSIs, etc)

  • Test and Commissioning knowledge

  • Commercial experience advantageous

Qualifications

  • Chartered Engineer
