Your new role

In this exciting new role you will assemble ad-hoc bid teams with the relevant service / product / business knowledge required to prepare a winning bid, whilst taking ownership of the end-to-end bid process. Responsibilities include implementation of all necessary bid procedures, governance, and process. This is a highly networked role that requires an ability to work under pressure and to challenging deadlines. It will require strong people management and commercial skills

Specifically, you will be responsible for the following deliverables:

  • Support the bid qualification (bid go / no go) process for new opportunities

  • Identify and manage bid teams and inputs from a variety of stakeholders including sales, engineering, maintenance, finance, commercial, legal and delivery

  • Own the process of preparation of the commercial and technical aspects of the bid, ensuring all services are included in the final price to the customer

  • Manage and at times contribute to the written proposals or supporting documents, both in terms of content and presentation, for internal or customer presentation

  • Ensure adherence to quality process of bid submission to ensure the good quality of bid submission documents and that they are signed off with appropriate internal authority

  • Manage the bid preparation through the Phase Gate (approval) process and ensure conformance to company governance processes

  • Understand and ensure resolution of complex technical, strategic and business issues

  • Risk tracking and management throughout the bid process

  • Manage the bid budget for the relevant bids

  • Ensure timely delivery of technically compliant and commercially sound bids

  • Support the Commercial/Sales team during the negotiation of a contract in such aspects as liaison with insurance company, issuing of security certificates (e.g. PCG and APB), etc.

  • Provide regular project updates to Head of Bidding and Sales leadership team, providing regular input on all bidding activities, including reports on a weekly basis.


About you

Essential Requirements

  • Proven record in delivering winning, multi-million pound product or complex services opportunities. Ideally has a background in rail industry and experience of bid campaign management from opportunity identification through to project delivery, and will provide valuable input into opportunity qualification, win strategies, commercial discussions and solution design
  • Sound commercial understanding, P&L and risk management skills.
  • Ability to manage complex, multi-worksteam opportunities.
  • Solid understanding and implementation of internal governance procedures.
  • Ability to develop strong, constructive and focused relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Demonstrate the ability to build and manage relationships.
  • Fluent in English (spoken and written).
  • Strong problem solving skills.
  • A high level of competence with Microsoft Office Suite, excellent PowerPoint and Excel skills.

 Desirable Requirements:

  • Experience operating in an engineering / technical environment.

  • Knowledge of the Railway Industry in the UK and mainland Europe is desirable, but not essential.

  • Experience in working in an international environment is desirable.

  • Working level capability in a second European language is desirable.
