Role Overview


To undertake data preparation and testing activities associated with the creation HICSE’s products including Automatic Route Setting product (TRESA), Traffic Management (TMS) and simulator (TRESIM).


Main Tasks and Responsibilities

Reporting to one of our Project Engineers, tasks shall include but not be limited to:

  • Creating and testing data for HICSE products
  • Creating design and requirement documents
  • Attending design workshops
  • Preparation of Interlocking Data to SSI standards

Achieving success in the role will be indicated by performance on tasks such as:

  • Adherence to the HICSE Business Management System
  • Compiling project data to meet project requirements
  • Compiling project documentation in accordance with the BMS (business management system) as assigned by Project Engineer, Project Leader and/or Technical Authority
  • Identify and seek clarification on technical and project issues from the relevant person
  • Progressing work in accordance with the project plan
  • Timely identification and resolution of data issues
  • Preparing test specifications for HICSE products in accordance with current test procedures
  • Documenting test results and make corrections as appropriate
  • Producing System Release Notes and Delivery Notes prior to delivery
  • Assisting with the delivery and assembly of HICSE systems on site
  • Carrying out post-delivery corrections
  • Asking for feedback and seeking guidance from the Project Engineer, Project Leader or Technical Authority
  • Enhancing working relationships both internal and external to the project team
  • Working with the Senior Data Engineer to ensure the Operational Requirements Specification complies with HICSE product design
  • Preparing and updating design documents and attend design workshops


Key Skills and Experience

  • Good knowledge of using PC tools especially Microsoft Office
  • Capable of working on own initiative in a structured manner
  • Learning attitude with attention to detail
  • Ability to think logically with good approach to problem solving
  • Good time management skills and able to work to appropriate deadlines
  • Basic understanding of simulation systems
  • Understanding of signalling design principles
  • Understanding of railway traffic operation, particularly signalling control centres
  • Knowledge of signalling control system design, and especially data structures associated with SSI, IECC, MCS, Panels, ARS, WESTLOCK, SMARTLOCK and WESTCAD
  • Knowledge of Timetables
  • IRSE Licence of the appropriate category for current product line desirable.
  • Working knowledge of SSI Data preparation desirable
