The Role

Working in a 24x7 global operations team environment, the System Engineer - Linux will require extensive infrastructure experience and deep technical expertise in solutions such as Ubuntu/RHEL Linux, upgrades, patching, storage management, encryption, HTTPS. The Engineer will be responsible for developing automation solutions that provide self service capabilities for Hitachi Vantara to simplify IT. The candidate will work on the Architecture, Engineering, Development / Operations teams to establish standards, best practices and infrastructure solutions.

Typical responsibilities for this position include design, deployment, maintenance and continuous improvement of the virtualized infrastructure

Responsibilities
  • Technology and business enablement advocate to advise best practice methods in how to maintain the environment while quantifying business value
  • Define and implement efficient end-to-end solutions
  • Serve as a SME for Linux
  • Independently lead the design of virtualized solutions to include hardware platforms, services, and operating systems
  • Develop detailed project plans, work breakdown structures and operational readiness materials
  • Independently complete solution implementation or Linux design deliverables
  • Support multiple technical teams in 24 x 7 environment operational environments with high uptime requirements including on call support. Varied shift schedules may include day or evening hours and late nights


Qualifications
  • In-depth (L3/L4) knowledge in all aspects of Linux Systems (RHEL)
  • Exposure to other Unix-based OSes administration and best practices
  • Knowledge of Network technologies, SAN/NAS/DAS
  • Experience on satellite server technologies - Fiber switches
  • Strong knowledge on Unix Fundamentals and Internals Programming knowledge in Python or any other
  • Hands-on experience on ext4/xfs File systems, Partitioning
  • Experience managing and troubleshooting Linux servers in production settings
  • Excellent system-level debugging skills Experience with one or more functional areas of Linux (e.g. kernel, networking, file system, gcc)
  • Migration of application/data from one system to Hands-on experience on Clustering and GFS2 File systems another and Technology Refresh
  • Excellent troubleshooting skills on OS, LVM and related
  • Exposure to Disaster Recovery practices SUPPLEMENTARY system issues
  • Should have worked on Exposure to Virtualization technologies (Xen, automating daily tasks VMware etc.)
  • Should have worked on assessing and optimizing system performance and tuning
  • Experience working on OpenStack technologies is a plus
  • Experience working on Ansible/Puppet/Scripting (Python, Perl , Bash, Go lang ) technologies is a plus
  • Familiarity with system security/vulnerability management
  • Familiarity with enterprise monitoring systems, ticketing systems, backup and SAN solutions
  • Strong written and verbal communications along with strong technical documentation skills; fluent in English
  • Certifications in REDHAT would be an added advantage self-motivated
  • Ability to learn new technologies on own
  • Strong technical aptitude and ability to research and solve complex issues independently
  • Ability to work as part of a team
  • Ability to participate and contribute during crisis times, assist team members/leads, as needed
  • Show adaptability and flexibility in work to suit business requirements
  • Be flexible with respect to work requirements and timings
  • Should be ready to work in 24x7 kind of shifts based on business requirements
  • Demonstrate ownership and responsibility in all assignments
  • Build positive working relationship with customers with the intention to exceed their expectations
