Your new role

In this exciting new role you will be responsible for the mechanical, electrical, pneumatic and functional integration of systems into the vehicle using CAD systems. Assuring systems perform to specification, as well as ensuring that the reliability, maintenance and safety requirements of the systems are in line with the customer requirements.

Specifically, you will be responsible for the following deliverables:

  • Effectively manage & deliver project engineering, coordinating between internal and external stakeholders.
  • Develop solutions which demonstrate design for manufacture and design for service principles.
  • Produce designs for rolling stock components and component installations using computer aided design.
  • Manage design interfaces, working with other design partners and colleagues, to deliver effective solutions which achieve an effectively integrated product.
  • Collaborate with a globally diverse multidisciplinary team to drive development of engineering concepts and detail engineering solutions.
  • Proactively engage with supply chain team to provide technical support.
  • Work with safety and approvals subject matter experts to establish legislative requirements and develop designs which satisfy these requirements.
  • Manage technical documentation to ensure that the product configuration is controlled in accordance with the company standards.
  • Concept and compile proposals to support bid activities.
  • Engage in the process of project management within the team to ensure that the integrated plan is used as the driving mechanism for project delivery.
  • Provide field support where required to help analyse system faults and problems, then to implement corrective action and solutions in accordance with the business change process.
  • Lead and maintain the implementation of ISO 9001 within the design office as part of the wider compliance to the company quality management system.
  • Respond to the requirements of the design engineering manager as requested.
  • Be aware of, actively promote and implement Hitachi’s ethos, culture & values.

About you

  • Project Engineering experience in a multi discipline design environment within manufacturing
  • Experience in the engineering design one or more of the following: passenger vehicles, trains, cars, cans, buses, MOD, aeroplanes and fixed or mobile plant structures.
  • Use of Creo and AutoCAD for computer aided design
  • Experienced in the use of computer aided design.
  • Experience in the application of engineering standards to product design.
  • Experience working to project deadlines in order to deliver validated design solutions.
  • Experience working with suppliers.
  • Good knowledge of excel and other Microsoft office packages.
  • Highly motivated and able to work with minimum supervision.
  • Can demonstrate perseverance, patience and commitment for the long term success.
  • Good self-discipline and organisation / time management.
  • Enjoys challenges and problem solving.
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills.
  • Highly organised and methodical.
  • A flexible and learning attitude.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
  • Commitment to working as part of a team.

Qualifications

  • An engineering degree qualification in electrical or mechanical engineering.
  • Currently holding or be working towards professional engineering registration.
