Your new role

Specifically, you will be responsible for the following deliverables:

  • Team Leading
    • Organise and control resources for planned work and additional unplanned work.
    • Assist with managing competency assessments and in process checks in line with the company wide competency management system.
    • Carry out essential management tasks in the absence of the Duty Shift Manager.

  • Facilitation of Overhaul Programme
    • Oversee the delivery/collection of materials for the overhaul programme.
    • Organise the distribution of materials for the overhaul programme.
    • Assist with managing the overhaul programme and ensure schedule and deadlines are achieved.
    • Have an understanding of all tasks completed on the programme.
    • Facilitate for unplanned work within the existing programme as required.
    • Carry out inspections and quality assure post overhaul work.
    • Ensure overhaul progression and completion records are clearly and concisely, updated and/or completed with the relevant information and archived correctly (Wraps, Equinox and Paper based records).
    • Represent the company as required.
    • Identify overhaul task requirements and the time/resource required for completion.

  • Safety/Security/Health/Environment/Quality
    • Ensure compliance of health, safety, environmental, quality practices and hazard management in the workplace at all times.

  • Administrative
    • In absence of the team’s administrator, duties are as follows:
      • Raising job-cards/work reports/campaigns.
      • Booking out parts/spares from stores by use of Equinox / Kardex.
      • Understanding of serial number tracking on Equinox. Ensuring all parts are labelled when returning to Procurement.

  • Additional Tasks
    • Organise the use of Weighwell equipment, Bogie Drop and Train Lifting Jacks.
    • Monitor the condition of the working area, materials, tooling and equipment.
    • Develop professionally and support good working relationships within and outside of the TMC.
    • Learn new skills in accordance with Hitachi’s new business demands as required.
    • Assist in the development of overhaul & continuous improvement processes.
    • Ensure own skills, knowledge and competences are kept up to date at all times.
    • Assist as required.

About you

Essential

Licences / Competences

  • Network Rail Sentinel PTS or Local Rail Safety Awareness.
  • Stock-specific maintenance and fault finding.
  • Manual handling.
  • Depot Protection System (train moves incl. PICT).
  • Competent in the use of Bogie Drop, Train Lifting Jacks, Crane Systems, Fork Lifts and Mobile Scaffolding Platforms and in Train Balancing/Weighing.
  • Test track isolations.
  • Competent Equinox user.
  • Intermediate IT skills – typically Word, Excel, Powerpoint.

Qualifications

  • M & E HNC or served engineering apprenticeship (NVQ level 3); or relevant experience.

  • Good written and verbal communication skills.
  • Able to represent Hitachi in a professional manner at all times.

Desirable

Licences / Competences

  • TAQA.
  • 395 Depot Driving.
  • Shunting locomotive driving.
  • ILM Level 3.
  • Driving licence.
