Job Summary:

This position is part of the Hitachi Engineering Development Program (EDP).  The EDP is designed to aid in the career development of new engineers through mentored assignments, ongoing professional development review, and the potential for temporary domestic or international assignments.  This position in our hardware group, supports the design and development processes for an assigned hardware engineering program.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Participation in the Hitachi Automotive EDP (Outline Attached).
  • Assist with the development and testing activities of prototypes, product specification, and following the products from development through to production.
  • Support analog and digital circuit design through analysis, simulation and testing, including the support for PBC layout.
  • Assist with the development problem resolution and design of assigned program projects.
  • Assist with program tests, analyzing test data, and writing test reports to record operating performance.
  • Support the direction on design and development activities to improve, modify or design new products.
  • Track and report design changes for assigned programs.
  • Work alongside other program staff (engineering, sales, and test) as well as with customer engineers to accomplish and ensure set goals are met, schedules are maintained and problems encountered during development process are satisfactorily resolved.
  • Travel to customer locations supporting product development and throughout (s) for product reviews, testing, and change updates with periodic travel with customer to company manufacturing facilities (domestic and international).
  • Ensure legal compliance in all engineering product design activities.
  • Review and report project status to supervisor and/or department management regularly.
  • Consistently use exceptional customer service skills and work with all levels of staff and maintain strict confidentiality of information.
  • Maintain a safe workplace and follow all regulations and requirements related to safety and environmental compliance.
  • Follow all quality policy standards.

Knowledge skills and abilities:

  • Have embedded hardware design understanding or experience and general knowledge for automotive applications
  • Have exposure to automotive component and vehicle test procedures, including EMI/EMC testing
  • Have exposure and/or experience with PSPICE and/or Saber Modeling
  • Proficiency in setting up and using laboratory test equipment such as multi-meters, oscilloscopes, logic analyzer, power analyzer.
  • The ability to understand analysis methods and interpreting the results to convey this information to others.
  • Conduct investigative circuit analysis using device schematics of products and testing equipment.
  • Critical thinking and dealing with complex problems to identify strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions and conclusions.
  • Familiarity with CAN, SPI, LIN, UDS, or other communication protocols is a plus.
  • Excellent interpersonal, organizational, verbal and written communication skills
  • Perform duties in an ethical and professional manner

Education:         Bachelor’s degree in electrical and/or computer science engineering or related are required. Has thorough knowledge of specialized engineering principles and practices

Experience:     0-2 years prior related experience preferred.

*Job level determined by various factors such as organization size, responsibility, career stage and capabilities.

Working conditions:

Physical Demands: Requited to sit or stand for long periods of time. The employee may occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Have ability to work 40 – 60 hours per week.

Travel: Domestic and international may be required as needed.

Work Environment: Primarily in a professional business office with exposure to testing areas and periodic exposure to manufacturing environments.

(HIAMS)AM / Engineering Development Program

Program Summary and Objectives:

This is an assignment program for recent university graduates.

The goals of the (HIAMS)AM Freshman Program are as follows:

  • Develop new employees to meet organizational needs and assist with professional development.
  • Increase hiring of talented recent graduates to provide early exposure of our company culture and assist with professional development during the early stages of their career advancement.
  • Aid in company succession planning.
  • Build leadership capabilities through experience and organizational exposure.
  • Identify high potential employees through their performance in each assignment.

The assignments will give the freshmen employees the opportunity to discover the areas they can contribute the most value and provide them an understanding of the overall company culture and processes. 

Assignments:

  • Original Assignment Plans will be in place for each Freshman Employee.
    • Assignment Plans are shared with the Freshman Employee by their manager during the first 2 weeks.
    • All plans are tentative, and may be subject to change.
  • Each Freshman Employee’s development will be reviewed every 6 months to review the program and determine assignments that will aid in their growth.
  • An Executive Review Committee will meet during each review period to assess the Freshman Employee’s progress.  The next assignment will be determined and communicated to employee upon approval by the Executive Review Committee.
    • The details of the next assignment will be shared with the Freshman Employee by their current manager.

Goal Setting and Performance Reviews:

  • Goals and objectives will be communicated to the Freshman Employee within two weeks of starting each assignment.   Regular goal setting and performance evaluation processes will be followed.
