Hitachi America, Ltd. ( is looking for a Masters or PhD candidate in Mechanical Engineering to join our Research & Development team as a Researcher to contribute in the area of Mechanical Design and Analysis. The Researcher will work on developing automotive technologies for Hitachi's North American products with a focus on powertrain, chassis components and systems. The advanced methodologies maybe adopted for development of other relevant products of Hitachi. The position requires the candidate to work as an individual contributor as well as a team member with strong technical and communication skills.


  • Perform structural, fatigue and thermal simulations on automotive products to validate designs, and propose countermeasures to achieve robust, light weight and quieter products.
  • Closely interact with customers and proactively support them as needed
  • Generate research reports, publish technical papers, and present them at conferences
  • Periodic generation of invention disclosures based on research outcome
  • Attend conferences/seminars and survey market/technology trends
  • Stay abreast of new technology and competitive products and adopt new technology / development trends within research projects


  • MS in Mechanical Engineering or higher with at least two years of industry experience and a strong background in structural mechanics, dynamics, material science and heat transfer is required.
  • Proficiency in Finite Element Analysis (FEA) – Static & Dynamic, thermal FEA experience with CAE tools such as ANSYS/ABAQUS is required.
  • Ability to create/modify 3D CAD models using Solidworks (or equivalent) is required.
  • Experience with FEA pre-processors including ANSA (preferred) and Hypermesh is required.
  • Experience explicit dynamic analysis using LS-DYNA/ABAQUS is preferred.
  • Experience with fatigue theory and analysis using nCode DesignLife is preferred.
  • Programming skills in MATLAB/Python is preferred.
  • Must be a fast learner and flexible to adopt new technologies/methodologies for research and development.
  • Ability to work in a team environment and present research outcomes to sponsors and customers.
  • Excellent written and verbal technical communication skills
  • Strong time and project management skills
  • Ability to travel domestically and internationally up to 15% of the time
  • Ability to write new research proposals to secure funding for advanced research projects
