The Role

We are seeking a payroll leader with a passion for creating innovative solutions to manage and elevate our American payroll teams serving over 3,000 employees. Reporting to the America's Controller, this role will provide strategic direction and bring expertise to the payroll function by driving operational excellence, continuous process improvement, strategic alignment, and the maintenance of proper regulatory compliance controls and practices. This individual will build and foster relationships with key internal stakeholders through partnering with Global Compensation - Benefits, Human Resources and Accounting teams, as well as leadership to improve the overall employee experience.

  • Develop Hitachi Vantara's payroll processes, technology platforms and service delivery, as well as coordinate payroll processes related to M-A activities
  • Enable the payroll team to improve performance and drive the vision of a payroll services model through engaging multi-disciplinary functions and leading change management
  • Establish policies, practices and controls and monitor compliance of country regulations (including privacy), meet payroll and tax obligations, and control operational cost
  • Collaborate with accounting, tax, and various business partners to ensure changes in regulations, business strategy, or other matters are addressed timely
  • Partner with Compensation - Benefits, HRIS, External Auditors and various accounting teams to ensure the accuracy, timeliness and compliance adherence for reporting
  • Develop and implement best practices, key performance indicators (KPIs), and service level agreement (SLA) metrics for department
  • Implement and report (weekly, monthly, quarterly) on key metrics to monitor, manage, and improve quality and efficiency
  • Identify and coordinate changes in policy and procedures governed by federal, state and local laws that affect the payroll function
  • Ensures payroll issues are escalated and resolved with root cause analysis and corrective action and that comprehensive training is provided to global team on payroll and tax practices

  • A minimum of 10 years of experience in payroll at a global organization based in U.S. operating across multiple geographies
  • Bachelor's degree in business, accounting or related field
  • Must have Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) certificate
  • Knowledge of US and Canadian tax withholding, reporting regulations, and payroll tax accounting
  • Experience with major Payroll and ERP system required (Ceridian/ADP/ Kronos/ Workday/Netsuite etc.) and U.S. and Canada requirements at the federal, state, local and provincial levels
  • Highly developed written and verbal communication skills; as well as presentation skills, especially to senior executives
  • Ability to think globally, strategically, and objectively
  • Change management experience and ability to facilitate change

  • Builds partnerships and solicit feedback from internal and external business partners, including third party vendors, to define and develop successful, scalable processes and practices

  • Demonstrate a willingness to be involved and contribute to initiatives outside of their remit to become a true business partner to the enterprise
  • Develop and maintain sufficient coverage for all critical functions, thus minimizing "single point of failure" risk
  • Acts as a change agent and leads by example; acts in accordance with strategic direction and promotes the use of solutions to simplify and improve resource productivity

For Colorado only (as required by the Colorado Equal Pay Act): The expected salary for this position in our Colorado office is $151,000 - $195,000. Pay is determined based on a variety of factors including, but not limited to, depth of experience in the practice area. Employees are eligible to participate in Hitachi Vantara's variable pay program, subject to the program's conditions and restrictions.
