Meet our Team

The Linux Red Hat SME will require extensive infrastructure experience and deep technical expertise in solutions such as Ubuntu/RHEL Linux, upgrades, patching, storage management, encryption, HTTPS. The Engineer will be responsible for developing automation solutions that provide self service capabilities for Hitachi Vantara to simplify IT. The candidate will work on the Architecture, Engineering, Development / Operations teams to establish standards, best practices and infrastructure solutions.

Typical responsibilities for this position include design, deployment, maintenance and continuous improvement of the virtualized infrastructure

What you'll be doing
  • Serve as a SME for Linux
  • Technology and business enablement advocate to advise best practice methods in how to maintain the environment while quantifying business value
  • Define and implement efficient end-to-end solutions
  • Independently lead the design of virtualized solutions to include hardware platforms, services, and operating systems
  • Develop detailed project plans, work breakdown structures and operational readiness materials
  • Independently complete solution implementation or Linux design deliverables
  • Support multiple technical teams in 24 x 7 operational environments with high uptime requirements including on call support.

What you bring to the team
  • In-depth (L3/L4) knowledge in all aspects of Linux Systems (RHEL)
  • Experience managing and troubleshooting Linux servers in production settings
  • Exposure to other Unix-based OS administration and best practices
  • Knowledge of network technologies: SAN/NAS/DAS
  • Experience on satellite server technologies and fiber switches
  • Strong knowledge on Unix fundamentals
  • Programming knowledge in Python or similar languages
  • Hands-on experience on ext4/xfs File systems and partitioning
  • Excellent system-level debugging skills
  • Experience with one or more functional areas of Linux (e.g. kernel, networking, file system, gcc)
  • Migration of application/data from one system to hands-on experience with clustering and GFS2 file systems plus technology refresh
  • Excellent troubleshooting skills on OS, LVM and related technology
  • Exposure to disaster recovery practices and supplementary system issues
  • Exposure to virtualization technologies (Xen, automating daily tasks VMware etc.)
  • Experience with assessing and optimizing system performance and tuning
  • Experience working with automation tools like Ansible, Puppet or Scripting (Python, Perl, Bash, Golang)
  • Familiarity with system security/vulnerability management
  • Familiarity with enterprise monitoring systems, ticketing systems, backup and SAN solutions
  • Ability to learn new technologies on own
  • Strong technical aptitude and ability to research and solve complex issues independently
  • Ability to participate and contribute during crisis times, assist team members/leads, as needed
  • Show adaptability and flexibility in work to suit business requirements
  • Demonstrate ownership and responsibility in all assignments
  • Build positive working relationship with customers with the intention to exceed their expectations
  • Strong written and verbal communications along with strong technical documentation skills; fluent in English
  • Experience working on OpenStack technologies is a plus
  • Certifications in Red Hat

For Colorado only (as required by the Colorado Equal Pay Act): The expected salary for this position in our Colorado office is $90K - $110K. Pay is determined based on a variety of factors including, but not limited to, depth of experience in the practice area. Employees are eligible to participate in Hitachi Vantara's variable pay program, subject to the program's conditions and restrictions.
