Your new role

We currently have an exciting opportunity for a Compliance Engineer to join the safety and approvals team. This role reports to the Head of Approvals and Homologation and is responsible for implementing the strategy and technical submissions for new rolling stock and developing other new railway projects. We are recruiting this role on a permanent basis.

Specifically, you will be responsible for the following deliverables:

  • You will work to support the delivery and approvals of new rolling stock fleets in terms of safety and compliance to standards whilst also exceeding internal and external customer expectations.
  • Assist in the implementation of the Approvals Strategy for new rolling stock and in the development for other new projects in conjunction with the Hitachi factories and their main sub suppliers.
  • Leading and contributing to compliance work, ensuring documentation conforms to standards and that any necessary submissions meet with the statutory and contractual requirements.
  • Assisting in the writing of safety case documentation for the new rolling stock projects.
  • Managing submissions in accordance with a specified project programme.
  • Writing of safety and approvals strategy documents to support bid work for new projects.
  • To represent the Safety and Approvals Team in Change Management.
  • Support the relationship with the appointed approvals bodies such as the Notified Bodies with regard to the review and management of submissions.
  • To be aware of and actively promote and implement Hitachi’s ethos, culture and values.
  • To adhere to the Hitachi Rail Europe’s Equal Opportunities Policy.
  • To comply with and implement Hitachi Rail Europe’s Health and Safety policy.
  • To undertake any other reasonable duties and responsibilities as may be required.
  • Assist with the approvals work in future bids.
  • Assist with financial projections.
  • Represent Safety and Approval weekly core team meetings.

About you

Essential

  • Significant rolling stock experience or worked within a project team.
  • Good sound knowledge of Rolling stock from either a test/ safety / design environment.
  • Ideally, the applicant will have had or been working in a rail environment encompassing Approvals / Safety work associated with new/ modified train introduction with “hands on” experience.
  • Experienced in producing engineering safety case work (or assessment of such work) Engineering safety management experience (Previous Yellow Book / CENELEC type work)·
  • Experience of interfacing with clients, development teams and contractors subcontractors on a technical level, assisting in resolving approvals compliance issues in a pragmatic, logical manner would be desirable.
  • Good knowledge of Excel and other Microsoft office packages.
  • Highly motivated and can work with minimum supervision.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Good self-discipline and organisation/time management.
  • The ability to work well under pressure is essential.
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills.
  • Highly organised and methodical.
  • A flexible and learning attitude.
  • A team player is a must being able to work within a diverse workforce.
  • Experience of and commitment to the effective implementation of equal opportunities and CSR  policies.
  • An understanding of health and safety requirements of a working environment

Qualifications

  • An Engineering Degree in an appropriate engineering disciplines for traction and rolling stock.
