Senior IT Administrator

Summary:  Manages the overall information systems function of the organization, including systems and programming procedures and computer equipment operations. Coordinates the integration of office operations and information systems. Manages voice, data and video communication systems throughout the organization, including the planning, design, installation and maintenance of networks in support of information systems. Oversees the budgeting and long-range planning of telecommunication systems and projects. Consults with information systems staff to coordinate telecommunications systems capabilities. Prepares activity and progress reports.

General purpose: Responsible for the overall planning, organizing, and execution of all information systems functions at AM-MS. This includes directing all I.T. operations to meet customer requirements as well as the support and maintenance of existing applications and development of new technical solutions.

Role qualifications:

  • Must ensure the streamlined operation of the I.T. department in alignment with the business objectives of the organization.
  • Must plan, coordinate, direct and design I.T.-related activities of the organization.
  • Must provide administrative direction and support for daily operational activities of the I.T. department.
  • Must work closely with decision makers in other departments to identify, recommend, develop, implement and support cost-effective technology solutions for all aspects of the organization.
  • Must define and implement I.T. policies, procedures and best practices.

Position responsibilities:

  • Lead the I.T. department’s operational and strategic planning, including fostering innovation, planning projects and organizing and negotiating the allocation of resources.
  • Manage the deployment, monitoring, maintenance, development, upgrade and support of all I.T. systems, including telecommunications, servers, PCs, operating systems, hardware, software, peripherals and office automation equipment.
  • Benchmark, analyze, report on and make recommendations for the improvement and growth of the I.T. infrastructure and systems.
  • Oversee provision of end-user services, including help desk and technical support services.
  • Define business and systems requirements for new technology implementations, such as ERP.
  • Keep current with the latest technologies.
  • Manage financial aspects of the I.T. department, including purchasing, budgeting and budget review.
  • Develop business justifications and cost/benefit analyses for I.T. spending and initiatives.
  • Approve and oversee projects and project portfolio.
  • Develop and implement all I.T. policies and procedures, including those for architecture, security, disaster recovery, standards, purchasing and service provision.
  • Develop requests for proposal.
  • Negotiate and administer vendor, outsourcer and consultant contracts and service agreements.
  • Practice asset management for I.T. hardware, software and equipment.
  • Establish and maintain regular written and in-person communications with company directors and managers, and end users regarding pertinent I.T. activities.
  • Regular attendance is required.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned

Essential skills and experience:

  • Bachelor's degree (B. S.) from four-year college or university, or five (5) to six (6) years related experience and high school diploma or G.E.D., or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience in implementing effective and innovative software development methodologies.
  • Operations experience in a manufacturing environment. Experience of ERP systems.
  • Proven ability to lead a progressive I.T. group.
  • Ability to communicate technical concepts to technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Solid writing skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple concurrent projects and motivate professional staff.
  • Analytical and problem solving skills.
  • Demonstrated aptitude for learning new technologies.
  • Broad knowledge of data processing systems, concepts, and methodologies.
  • Commitment to company values.

Nonessential skills and experience:

  • IT management experience within a manufacturing environment.
  • Extensive experience in Local and Wide Area Networks.
  • Certified Network Engineer (CNE)

Reporting to this position: Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws.  Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training team members; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining team members; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
