Summary of the position:

The market analyst role will be responsible for researching and investigating end user markets, providing facts and making recommendations to drive strategic direction. At the heart of this role will be the ability to analyze markets and develop recommendations for market success with a primary focus on pricing and customer differentiation.  This position requires an individual possessing the skills of a “data dog” to find the relevant information, and the ability to synthesize information for multiple audiences.  A strong understanding of strategic business drivers, such as Porter’s Five Forces, as well as market research methodologies is critical.  The ideal candidate will have experience in multi-stage distribution models preferably in heavy industrial settings.   

Duties and responsibilities:

  • Competitive intelligence, focusing on:
    • Competitor capabilities and strategies
    • Pricing and financial analysis
  • Market intelligence, focusing on:
    • Industry sizes and trends
    • Geographic market drivers
    • Vertical market drivers
    • End user and value chain analysis
  • Identify and manage market research opportunities – both primary and secondary
  • Concurrent with above, develop, maintain and update databases expanding the learnings of ongoing fact-finding operations
  • Some travel, including international, may be required

Qualifications:

Education:

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Marketing; Business; or Finance; MBA preferred

Professional experience:

  • 5+ years of experience in competitive intelligence; quantitative market research; or business analysis.
  • Customer-focused experience essential.  Must have working knowledge of end customer behavior, preferably in industrial settings.
  • Experience with database development and management desirable.
  • Excellent verbal and communication skills are required.
