Senior Field Service Engineer’s (Sr. FSE’s) typically spending 5% of their time receiving training.  Remaining time is utilized providing support activity to all types of Service calls from Basic to Advanced, PM’s, Billable’s, Installations as well as Sales Support.  Engineer is also giving Basic Training to others in either Classroom or On-the-Job-Training (OJT) situations.  The engineer can schedule all service within their territory at their Manager’s discretion.  Engineer will be responsible for ordering and maintaining sufficient traveling inventory to support the assigned customers.  Generally, this engineer will possess the ability to service a wide range of instrument models within a product line in the assigned territory with minimal supervision.


  • Respond to service calls from customers including PMs, billable services as well as installations of Hitachi’s nanotechnology equipment
  • Provide a higher level of diagnosis and find resolutions for complex equipment failures using digital volt meters, oscilloscopes, hand tools and computers
  • Provide trainings to customers on Hitachi’s equipment
  • Maintain appropriate records of all work performed and training received
  • Provide highly detailed documentation for the purpose of problem resolution and/or engineer training
  • Provide OJT or Classroom training to less experienced engineers
  • Complete all assigned formal trainings with passing grades of 80 or more on the tests 
  • Able to obtain instrument certifications through OJT 
  • Manage and maintain traveling inventory according to department policy and procedure 
  • Protect and maintain company property (i.e., traveling inventory, company car, cell phone, test equipment, tools, etc.) 
  • Set and keep appropriate schedules for service on the assigned equipment
  • Comply and adhere to company policies 
  • Exhibit professional and positive attitude to management, colleagues, and customers
  • Other duties as assigned


  • AS degree in electronics or equivalent combination of education and work experience
  • BS degrees in Electronics Engineering a plus


  • Willingness to relocate and/or travel 
  • Able to travel both domestically and internationally, as required
  • Maintain a valid passport


  • Able to work from schematics using various test equipment and mathematical calculations specific to electronics 
  • Knowledge of analog and digital circuitry as applied to our equipment 
  • Advanced level of electronics, mechanical and computer skills 
  • Basic Knowledge and understanding of Physics and Chemistry 
  • Able to use digital volt meters, oscilloscopes, hand tools and computers  
  • Able to disassemble and assemble intricate parts for instruments 
  • Able to effectively interface with customers, service department personnel and others 
  • Able to effectively communicate in writing or verbally with management, colleagues, internal and external customers regarding service activities and schedules 
  • Able to provide more complex billable emergency service
  • Able to provide preventive maintenance and emergency service on multiple instruments or product lines
  • Able to provide a complete system installation including advanced customer training
  • Able to work independently with limited supervision and or instructions
  • Able to completely install specified instruments
  • Able to give Advanced Customer training
  • Able to provide OJT training to junior levels of field service engineers
  • Able to install or setup equipment at Sales Shows
  • Demonstrate a strong work ethic including arriving promptly on-time to work and trainings, meeting deadlines on all assignments, proper preparation for assignments, effective teamwork, etc. 
  • Participate in all corporate sponsored safety related training
  • Maintain a safe work environment in adherence to HTA’s safety policies
  • Exhibit professionalism and a high level of customer service in adherence to HTA’s policies 
  • Must have and retain valid driver’s license in the state of residence and must be insurable by HTA’s insurance company 
  • Must be eligible for and receive company credit card 


  • Ability to see small objects within a confined area with or without accommodations
  • Ability to identify and distinguish color-codes with or without accommodations
  • Ability to quickly transport from location to location (i.e., air, car, etc.) with or without accommodations
