This position will consist of a welder who lays out, fits, and welds fabricated, cast, and forged components to build or rebuild parts, according to blueprints and knowledge of welding and metallurgy: Selects equipment and plans layout, assembly, and welding, applying knowledge of geometry, physical properties of metal machining, weld shrinkage, and welding techniques.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Safety – conduct all activities in a safe manner, utilizing PPE and adhering to company policy and alerting others regarding potential concerns. Safety is # 1. Lays out, positions, and secures parts and assemblies according to specifications. Tack-welds or welds components and assemblies using welding equipment. Cuts work piece, using powered saws, hand shears, or chipping knife. Observes tests on welded surfaces, such as hydrostatic, x-ray, and dimension tolerance to evaluate weld quality and conformance to specifications. Inspects grooves, angles, or gap allowances, using micrometer, caliper, and precision measuring instruments. Removes rough spots from work piece, using portable grinder, hand file, or scraper. Removes welds by air arc gouging process. Welds components in flat, vertical, or overhead positions. Heats, forms, and dresses metal parts, using hand tools, torch, or arc welding equipment. Ignites torch and adjusts valves, amperage, or voltage to obtain desired flame or arc. Analyzes engineering drawings and specifications to plan layout, assembly, and welding operations. Develops templates and other work aids to hold and align parts. Determines required equipment and welding method, applying knowledge of metallurgy, geometry, and welding techniques. Types of welding include:
Ability to fabricate metal structures without drawings and create a drawing of completed assembly. Mechanical abilities required to disassemble and assemble equipment components. May be required to work in the field for weldments on equipment for dismantle or assembly of equipment. May include assisting mechanics with assembly/disassembly process. Performs other duties as assigned.
Position will not be required to make decisions that will directly impact the department.
Position requires collaboration with department managers and sales staff.
QUALIFICATIONS: EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
High School Diploma or GED. A two-year Associate Degree from a technical/trade school is preferred. Two years professional training in a vocational institution, or equivalent journey level experience desired, but not required. Welding, soldering, and brazing skills. Rigging loads for overhead crane work and forklift operation desired, but not required. Ability to lift up to 50# is required. Must be able to pass respirator fit test and pulmonary function testing.

While performing the duties of this position, the employee is regularly required to stand, feel with their hands, reach and handle materials weighing up to 10 pounds. The employee will frequently need to stoop, bend, kneel, crouch, walk and handle materials weighing 10-20 pounds. On occasion the employee will need to handle materials weighing 20-50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include; close vision, distance vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.
The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee may encounter while performing the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this position, the employee is regularly exposed to moving objects (materials handled and transported throughout the property via cranes, fork trucks and other employees). The employee is frequently exposed to airborne particles. The employee is also frequently exposed to sharp and abrasive edges which may result in scrapes, cuts and bruises. The employee is occasionally exposed to humid conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
