Team Lead

Company: Hitachi Astemo Electric Motor Systems America, Inc.

Division:   Production, Warehouse, Quality

Location: Berea, KY

Status: Regular, Full-Time (Hourly)

Summary:  Support department operations in the areas of safety, quality, productivity, cost, and continuous improvement.  The role of the Team Lead requires that he/she provide leadership and direction to team members as well as support operations in attaining their daily goals.

Essential Functions: Includes the following (other duties may be documented and assigned by local management and some duties may not apply dependent upon the requirements of the position at the (Astemo) USMS site and/or the strengths of the employee and the needs of the company):

1.Ensure all safety guidelines are followed.  This includes, but is not limited to:

  • Model and enforce PPE requirements.
  • Ensure all machines are properly guarded.
  • Identify and close potential safety risks.
  • Report/escalate safety risks.
  • Utilize and teach stop-call-wait to ensure a safe work environment.
  • Seek to improve safety environment daily.

2. Ensure all IATF guidelines are followed.  This includes, but is not limited to:

  • Monitor daily process check sheets.
  • Follow standardized work and train by using standardized work.
  • Properly utilize measurement tools (i.e.: gauges, calipers, micrometers)
  • Use problem-solving process to investigate and countermeasure quality problems.
  • Understand basics of providing quality parts to customer.
  • Conduct LPA (layered process audit) per company guidelines.

3. Ensure all productivity goals are meet.  This includes, but is not limited to:

  • Understand process flow for each process in assigned area.
  • Understand how to measure cycle time.
  • Efficient change over practices

4. Effective use of Kanban Manage all costs associated with assigned area.  This includes, but is not limited to:

  • Proper scrap management Manage team member overtime daily.
  • Reduce equipment downtime.
  • Produce to desire quantity (eliminate overproduction)
  • Support department supervisor in managing operation budget.

5. Ensure proper 5S of area.  This includes, but is not limited to:

  • Standard location for all operation tools
  • Establish and maintain good workplace organization.
  • Manage all end of shift requirements for team members.
  • Establish and maintain good visual control for the area.

6. Ensure good Andon System/Communication.  This includes, but is not limited to:

  • Teach proper Andon system usage.
  • Timely response to requests made by team members using Andon system. Maintain good shift to shift communication.
  • Escalate issues in a timely manner to the correct process owner.

7. Ensure continuous improvement strategies are utilized.  This includes, but is not limited to:

  • Identify problems in process and develop long term countermeasure.
  • Identify waste and eliminate.
  • Level up team member skill

8. Ensure team members are developed and well-trained.  This includes, but is not limited to:

  • Train using standardized work.
  • Teach internal systems (i.e.: Kanban, red box, etc.)
  • Utilize training level system and training matrix.
  • Develop priorities and manage accordingly

Qualifications:

Knowledge, skills & abilities: Must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Possess ability to perform duties utilizing current company software applications. Excellent interpersonal, organizational, verbal, and written communication skills required.  This position performs job duties in an ethical and professional manner. Must have mechanical and electrical aptitude. Knowledge of processes in required areas. Ability to trouble-shoot and diagnose a wide variety of machine malfunctions. Must have good judgment, organization, and leadership abilities. Must be able to understand and uphold the quality levels for each process in responsibility. Mechanical aptitude - the ability to do basic machine adjustments to ensure quality products.

Education: High School Diploma or GED required.

Experience: Prior experience preferred, but not necessary.

Supervisory Responsibilities:  Supervisory responsibilities may be possible to perform the job duties as designated by area management.

Working Conditions:

Physical Demands:

Standing - Up to 10-12 hours per day to assemble parts.

Lifting - Parts and supplies, up to 50 pounds repetitive lifting

Carrying - Parts and supplies, up to 50 pounds repetitively

Maneuvering - Use mechanical assist, various levers.

Walking - Retrieval to placement of parts, up to 10-12 hours per day

Reaching - Upward and downward reaching to retrieve parts, up to 10-12 hours per day.

Handling - Various supplies/parts of different weights, up to 50 pounds repetitively

Seeing - Parts assembly and inspecting, up to 10-12 hours per day

Finger Dexterity   - Small parts assembly, up to 10-12 hours per day

Repetitive Work - Assembling parts and stocking supplies, up to 10-12 hours per day.

Overtime - Must be able to work daily and weekly overtime requirements, more than 40 hours per week.

               

Travel: Less than 5% domestic may be required as needed. 

Work Environment:  Working in a manufacturing environment with exposure to office and laboratory areas.
