Your new role

In this exciting permanent role, with remote working flexibility you will provide design authority for Electronic Systems on Hitachi’s range of metro, commuter and high speed trains.

You will will work closely with Hitachi Kasado, Mito and HRI Engineers to design the concept, detailed and final designs for new rolling stock projects.

You will provide systems expertise into the approval process (certification and testing) for all new systems, providing guidance to the factory where required.

Specifically, you will be responsible for the following deliverables:

  • Determining the design requirements for Electronic Systems based on railway standards and customer requirements

  • Make proposal to the factory to improve reliability of current design

  • Working closely with the test and commissioning teams, supporting the approvals process

  • Where required, supporting the design process/supplier selection

  • Supplier management including fault investigation process

  • This is a key role and you will act as the interface between the UK, Italian and Japanese engineering teams. Some travel in Europe and to Japan is expected.

  • Excellent knowledge of rolling stock electronic equipment and TCMS is a requirement as you will need to provide clear technical instructions to the team for resolving technical issues and liaise with other system engineers, maintenance, testing and commercial functions.

  • You will also be expected to assist, where necessary, with technical support for existing Hitachi products.

  • You will be expected to participate in customer facing design reviews, provide bid support and management for new products and technical support for contract reviews.

About you – you will have…..

  • Knowledge of train electronic systems and TCMS.

  • Experience on designing/testing train or other electronic/software based embedded systems.

  • Experience on requirements based systems development.

  • At least practical programming skills.

  • Knowledge of system modelling tools (Matlab/Simulink, Modelica, Scilab/Scicos).

  • Knowledge of concepts of real time systems.

  • Knowledge of the UK/EU Railway Operations, Engineering and standards.

  • Good English language skills, the ability to communicate effectively.

  • Experience of and commitment to the effective implementation of equal opportunities and CSR policies.

  • Commitment to working as part of a team.

  • An understanding of health and safety requirements of a working environment.

Qualifications/Licences

  • Chartered Engineer.

  • Knowledge or experience on Model Based Design.

  • Knowledge or experience on Lean/Agile System Development Processes.

  • Experience on Real Time Systems specification/development.

  • PTS.
