Hitachi Rail have a great opportunity for an experience planner to join out Project Engineering team as an Engineering Planner. As the Engineering Planner you will hold accountability for engineering planning processes and templates in order for UK engineering to identify workload issues.

This role will ensure every project or bid has a robust programme in which the Engineering Planner will update this weekly, and this will be used to inform efficient delivery. It is essential in this role that you must have previous Primavera (P6) experience as the Engineering Planner will help deliver through creation of agreed engineering resource and role libraries within the tool.

This is a key roles within the Project Engineering team and will have a tactical impact on project deliveries, efficiencies and effectiveness of overall project deliveries.

About you…

  • Demonstrable skills in the use of Primavera P6 and Microsoft planning products using Critical Path Analysis in a technical environment.
  • Excellent IT skills.
  • Proven ability to work successfully in a multi-disciplinary engineering/technical team
  • Demonstrate excellent communication and negotiation skills.
  • Self-starter with ability to develop strong, constructive and focused relationships with internal and external stakeholders at all organisation levels.
  • Excellent communicator - verbally and written
  • Good attention to detail
  • Able to work under pressure.

Role responsibilities include…

  • Support the Engineering Planning Team through the development of Project Engineering P6 Processes, templates and Programmes for Bids and Projects.  Specifically the following:
  • Develop and maintain standard planning process, governance for utilisation by project teams and ensure it is fully understood and integrated into planning.
  • Create an agreed Engineering Resource and Roles library in Primavera
  • Work with PMO in harmonising a standardised WBS into the engineering schedules.
  • Develop reporting and KPIs to support the resource forecasting, efficient delivery and tracking of Project Engineering Team performance; including appropriate look a heads such as Workload forecasting.
  • Update Engineering P6 Programme to inform workload issues, progress tracking and future planning.
  • Work closely with the Project Management Office (PMO) & the Rolling Stock (RS) Planning team in Italy to ensure planning integrates with the PMO and the overall RS Planning team.
  • Support what if scenario planning when required.
  • Baseline and track change in the programme.
  • Lead the quantification of risk in terms of the impact on delivery timescales, to ensure sufficient contingency or mitigations can be determined for workload and delivery by senior management.
  • Accountable for the accuracy and timely communication of the plans, lookaheads, trackers and KPI reports.
  • Accountable for quality of planning guidelines and procedures.
  • The role holder will be expected to solve complex planning optimisation problems, identifying how to achieve the best results with the minimum and/or constrained resources.
  • The role holder will also be expected to understand the reporting and data needs of the other planning functions and develop solutions that allow these to be fulfilled.
