Your new role

In this exciting permanent role, with a flexible working location, but ideally within travelling distance of London you will provide Life Cycle Costing support for Sales, Engineering and Operational teams from tender through to operational implementation.

You will ensure that LCC targets are developed and incorporated into system design specifications for suppliers and LCC plans are developed and implemented into the operational maintenance plan consistently across all fleet programmes.

Specifically, you will be responsible for the following deliverables:

Bids and Tenders

  • Assist in the development of costing and pricing models for tenders

  • Undertake review of LCC data to yield targeted maintenance solutions for future builds

LCC Development

  • Develop, manage, and maintain a centralised Life Cycle Cost (LCC) tool/ database for Hitachi Rail fleets

  • Provide relevant data inputs to the Hitachi Rail Global Product Lifecycle Management (GPLM) system (Windchill)

  • Co-ordinate with suppliers and internal stakeholders to ensure LCC data file submission are received in a timely manner, compliant to Hitachi Rail standards and meet contractual commitments

  • Review LCC data files against performance and financial models to identify areas of risk to reliability, performance and the maintenance plan

Continuous Development and Optimisation

  • Identify improvements to maintenance practices using the principles of reliability, availability, maintainability and safety (RAMS) and life cycle costing (LCC)

  • To optimise life cycle costs (LCC) of rolling stock components and systems as part of scheduled maintenance, overhaul and refurbishment projects

  • Develop optimum component maintenance, overhaul and repair regimes in order to achieve the LCC targets

Collaboration

  • Working with the engineering teams; develop Technical base specifications for suppliers and ensure maintenance targets are incorporated into system design and supply contracts to support the LCC plan

  • Work closely with the RAMS team to ensure supplier quoted LCC data is compliant to RAMS activities as part of the system integration plan

  • Work closely with operations teams to develop service bill of materials for all Hitachi Rail projects

  • Act as the central means of communication for internal and external stakeholders to progress LCC programmes

  • Liaise with Commercial, Procurement and engineering teams during the assessment and approval of new material suppliers to ensure that Maintenance, Materials, Tooling and Training needs are fully identified / addressed under the LCC plan

About you

Essential

  • Knowledge, understanding, and application of relevant engineering standards

  • Advanced user Microsoft Excel

  • Good communication skills

  • Highly skilled in planning and organising

  • Highly flexible, using ability and initiative to create innovate solutions to problems

Desirable

  • Previous experience in software development

  • Practical application of coding languages

  • Demonstrable experience of database development and implementation

  • Skilled in development and use of business insight tools, such as Microsoft Power BI, SAP BI (and SAP Business Warehouse), etc
