Your new role

The main responsibilities of the Rolling Stock Cyber Security Engineer are as follows:

  • Conduct cyber security risk assessments for new and existent rolling stock products.
  • Conduct the implementation and integration of dedicated cyber security enhancement components and systems to rolling stock design 
  • Support safety risk assessments of cyber security threats in compliance with CSM-RA.
  • Working flexibly on trains - unsociable hours occasionally.  
  • The successful candidate will act as the interface between the UK, Italy and Japanese engineering teams. Some travel in Europe and to Japan is expected.
  • The successful candidate will be expected to assist, where necessary, with technical support for existing Hitachi products.
  • The successful candidate will be expected to participate in customer facing design reviews and risk assessments, provide bid support and management for new products and technical support for contract reviews.
  • All other responsibilities allocated from line managers.
  • Be involved in Hitachi Rail UK staff development & training and participate in PDP procedures.

It is our expectation that successful applicants should be able to demonstrate all of the experience and skills listed below:

Essential Requirements

  • Qualified to a degree level in a relevant discipline or have equivalent level in a combination of other educational qualifications / relevant experience.
  • Strong knowledge and experience on OT/ICS cyber security, risk assessment methodologies  and principles
  • Knowledge of the standards:
    • ISO27000 series - Information Security Standards
    • ISA/IEC 62443 - Industrial Automation & Control Systems Security
    • DfT /NCSC Cyber Assessment Framework
    • Rail Industry Standard RIS-0700-CCS - Internet Access on Trains for Customer and Operational Railway Purposes
  • Knowledge of the UK/EU Railway Operations, Engineering and standards
  • Good English language skills
  • Ability to communicate effectively
  • Commitment to the effective implementation of equal opportunities and CSR policies.
  • Commitment to working as part of a team
  • An understanding of health and safety requirements of a working environment. Experience as controller of Safety Critical Work, as they will direct staff during testing on trains.   

Desirable Requirements

Licences / Competences / experience

  • Chartered Engineer or working towards
  • Knowledge of Rolling Stock Approvals (RGS Standards, TSIs, etc)
  • Qualification in Cyber Security
  • Experience of the EBIOS Risk assessment method/tools would be valuable.  
  • Knowledge of Pen Testing and CREST certification would be good
  • Firewall/CISCO or similar qualifications/experience
  • Italian and/or Japanese language skills
  • Experience designing embedded electronic and software based systems for rolling stock or other harsh environments.
