Description

Energy Consultant and Project Manager, Intelligent Fleet Decarbonisation

About Hitachi Social Innovation

The Social Innovation Business (SIB) addresses the world’s most challenging social and environmental challenges. By focussing on more efficient usage of assets and systems, we extract value to reach outcomes that matter for business and society – what we call the double bottom line. Combining 100+ years of experience in operational technology (OT) and 60+ years in IT, we harness Hitachi’s broad capabilities in R&D to deliver cutting edge AI and IOT solutions in the core areas of transport, manufacturing and energy.

About Intelligent Fleet Decarbonisation

Part of SIB, Intelligent Fleet Decarbonisation (IFD) is providing solutions for commercial vehicle and public transport fleets across Europe, using a wider perspective on energy opportunities to improve fleet total cost of ownership and facilitate the transition to zero carbon. We aim to simplify and de-risk the process of switching to electric vehicles (EVs) by offering a comprehensive end-to-end approach, considering not just vehicles and charging infrastructure, but also financing, optimisation, energy procurement, as well as potential for energy storage and on-site generation.

Role Overview

You will work as part of IFD’s Commercial team and develop propositions and business cases for our customers, including modelling of energy costs and additional revenue streams, for example from ancillary services. This includes the scoping and energy modelling of hybrid mixes of low carbon technologies such as solar PV, EV charging and grid-battery systems, and informing the continued development of associated digital platforms and tools to control and optimise these systems. You will work closely with technical colleagues to inform the design of solutions to help IFD’s clients achieve fleet transition and carbon reduction objectives at the lowest possible cost. You will also support the development of innovative funding and operating models to deliver value for both Hitachi and its clients.

This is an opportunity to work on the cutting-edge of the digitally-enabled transition to low carbon at the heart of Hitachi’s Social Innovation agenda as part of a dynamic, growing and diverse business group.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Analysis of client data and information including energy bills, demand profiles, site survey reports, sustainability reports and decarbonisation plans to develop a thorough understanding of clients’ needs
  • Applying modelling tools to model PV generation, storage and complex hybrid sites based on specific client needs, in collaboration with site surveyors and engineers
  • Development of energy revenue generation models based on the integration and operation of hybrid mixes of low carbon technologies leveraging different energy revenue streams (wholesale arbitrage, ancillary services and DNO flexibility markets)
  • Further development of in-house modelling tools to improve the accuracy and speed of responses to client requirements, in collaboration with the data science team
  • Collaborating with external energy sector partners, such as energy suppliers and aggregators, to develop optimal client propositions
  • Working closely with sales teams to provide input to business cases, pipeline opportunities and bidding activities

Skills & Experience

  • 5+ years of experience in a relevant role in the energy sector (e.g. with a consultancy, aggregator, energy supplier or energy services company)
  • Knowledge of flexibility revenue streams, including wholesale markets, Balancing Mechanism, ancillary services and avoided costs
  • Understanding of low carbon technologies (e.g. PV, battery storage, electric vehicles and charging infrastructure) and their operational characteristics relevant for flexibility revenue generation
  • Excellent written English and Microsoft Package experience
  • Advanced command of Excel a must, familiarity with Python will be a plus
  • Team player, comfortable working in multi-cultural complex matrix organisations
  • Commercial mind-set and critical thinker
  • Excellent attention to detail
