Hitachi Rail is looking for an enthusiastic self-motivated Information Controller to work on our Honolulu Rail Project. As the successful candidate your ideas for continuous improvement and creativity are welcome. The position is based in Pearl City, HI.

Job Description:
Information Controllers provide status updates regarding delays and rerouted service, they also utilize their knowledge of the system to provide recommended alternative routes. They do this by gathering real-time incident-related information from their peers within the Rail Control Center (i.e., a high-pressure incident-management environment), deduce that information, process it into an organized understandable format, and then translate that information to the riding public, within specific and correct locations, offering navigation recommendations as needed.
•Provides verbal/written/online updates through OCC workstations for information regarding Train operations and maintenance Vehicles
•Provides verbal/written/online information for social media (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and others as identified) and station display and public announcement systems.
•Provides verbal/written/online through SCADA workstation for information, remote equipment including but not limited to elevator, escalators, Traction Power, Platform Screen Gates, Auxiliary Station equipment, and Fire detection systems.
•Provides verbal/written/online information regarding manual intervention and adjustment of Train operations as required
•Provides verbal/written/online information regarding daily work is conducted in accordance to the applicable regulations, rules, standards and operational procedures related to railway safety
•Provides verbal/written/online information regarding daily management of control room activities and needs
•Provides verbal/written/online information regarding planned and unplanned activates
•Provides verbal/written/online information to providing clear and effective information to the Train Drivers and Crew
•Provides verbal/written/online information regarding for emergency calls from stations, trains and Crew
•Responsible for understanding and utilizing control room operation policies, restrictions and plans
•Willing to work flexibly and efficiently in support of the project which may include working shift rotation, nights, weekends and holidays
In addition to making such knowledgeable and service-oriented announcements in response to daily incidents, Information Controllers will perform the following tasks in between announcements:
  • Continuously monitor train movement along the board to detect announcement-worthy conditions, such as inconsistent headways, and in turn, provide a checks-and-balances accountability measure for the Control Room Operator.
  • Prepare "Announcement Scripts" for upcoming planned service disruptions (e.g., General Orders) in coordination with the General Orders (GO) team.
  • Create scripts on the spot and inform customers of service changes.

Job requirements
Required Skills/ Knowledge:
•High school diploma
•A minimum of two (2) years' experience in communications role or related role
•Basic knowledge and understanding of large monitoring and control systems and subsystems
•Ability to perform assigned duty in critical situations

Desired Skills/ Knowledge:
•Graduation from and accredited college with a Bachelor's Degree in related field
•Five (5) or more years of experience in as a dispatcher or public information
